About the role

The Senior Engineer on the AI Enablement team designs and delivers AI platform capabilities that let Nordstrom Technology use Generative AI safely and at scale. The role owns work that spans multiple engineers, breaks larger designs into actionable tasks, and mentors engineers across the team. The role shapes the technical direction of AI enablement at Nordstrom and drives developer productivity and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Design AI platform solutions that integrate with developer tools, cloud services, LLM providers, and observability systems.
  • Own systems and designs that span multiple engineers' work and break complex problems into smaller tasks for team members.
  • Make technical trade-offs between short-term needs and long-term business objectives across design, component choice, databases, and systems.
  • Champion new techniques and best practices across the organization.
  • Describe system interactions and direct dependencies in detail.
  • Lead work processes and design reviews with a focus on quality and scalability.
  • Build and evolve AI infrastructure and tooling that serves engineering teams across Nordstrom.
  • Design deployment processes for software, network, and systems that minimize downtime, and set up effective alerting.
  • Implement automation to streamline delivery of AI services and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Analyze and deconstruct complex systems, platforms, and processes.
  • Develop and optimize databases and infrastructure using Kubernetes and AWS.
  • Mentor junior engineers on technical approaches and career development.
  • Take responsibility for challenging work that needs support and ensure team success.
  • Work with product managers, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to define requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Engage directly in incident resolution for difficult and complex problems.
  • Facilitate cross-functional troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and vendor engagement.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Python proficiency: expert programming skills in Python, with the ability to write clean, maintainable, extensible code.
  • Kubernetes experience: hands-on experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and cloud-native architectures.
  • Cloud infrastructure: experience with frameworks and tools that deploy applications to AWS, including infrastructure as code.
  • AI/ML understanding: understanding of AI concepts and technologies, including tools like AWS AgentCore or similar platforms and frameworks, and the ability to evaluate and recommend solutions.
  • Problem-solving: analytical and debugging skills applied to complex technical challenges.
  • System design: ability to design systems that are testable, maintainable, efficient, and extensible.

Skills

  • Python programming skills.
  • Experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration and cloud-native architectures.
  • Knowledge of AWS and other cloud infrastructure tools.
  • Understanding of AI concepts and technologies.
  • Ability to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Experience with system design and optimization.

Pay

The pay range(s) below has been provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different for other locations. Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. $142,000.00 - $220,500.00 Annual.
