Senior Embedded Systems Engineer
About the role
We're looking for an experienced embedded software engineer with strong C development experience who enjoys building platforms rather than applications. You'll develop RTOS software, hardware abstraction layers, board support packages, device drivers, and platform services that form the foundation of Hypercraft's software-defined vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop real-time embedded software for vehicle control and platform infrastructure.
- Develop RTOS applications, platform services, HALs, BSPs, and device drivers.
- Build and maintain embedded networking, middleware, diagnostics, and secure software update capabilities.
- Bring up new hardware, integrate peripherals, and debug complex embedded systems.
- Optimize deterministic performance, reliability, and resource utilization across embedded platforms.
- Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software engineers to enable new vehicle capabilities and support prototype development, testing, and field deployments.
Requirements
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline; 8+ years developing embedded software; Strong C/C++; Strong Linux experience; Experience with RTOS development; Experience developing safety-critical software; Experience bringing up embedded hardware.
- Experience in several of these areas: RTOS, Embedded Linux, Yocto, Docker, C/C++, Rust, Python, CAN/J1939, Automotive Ethernet (100/1000BASE-T1), ARM, NXP S32 Automotive Platform, BSP development, Device drivers, Secure Boot, OTA updates, Distributed systems, ISO 26262/functional safety, Cybersecurity.
Qualifications
- Backgrounds that translate well: Experience in robotics, automotive, aerospace, defense, industrial automation, autonomous systems, embedded networking, edge computing.
