About the Role

A Senior Embedded Firmware Test Engineer at MKS Instruments partners with Research & Development, Product Development Engineering, and Applications Engineering to develop firmware regression testing systems or software, advancing firmware quality goals. This role reports to the SQA team manager.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, troubleshoot, debug, and support embedded firmware test suites involving test automation software and interfacing to electronic test equipment for RF systems for plasma control.
  • Coach Junior Engineers on test equipment interfacing, measurement and testing techniques, and analog circuits as needed.
  • Analyze test failures to determine root cause and corrective action.
  • Build, test, and troubleshoot test system hardware.
  • Conduct tests on RF systems for plasma control and analyze resulting test data.
  • Produce design documentation.
  • Interface with internal customers to determine and develop specifications.
  • Participate in test automation design reviews and recommend improvements.
  • Support test automation for new technology development initiatives and other critical projects.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot application issues.
  • Learn and implement AI-based tools for quality analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Solid understanding of Python.
  • Solid understanding of electrical circuits, both analog and digital.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and apply that to testing and troubleshooting digital and analog electronics.
  • Experience with test equipment like oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with regression test platforms.
  • Ability to interact with computers using the Linux operating system.
  • Experience with coding for embedded microcontrollers/microprocessors.
  • Working knowledge of Jenkins or similar CI/CD workflows, with experience designing those workflows.
  • Interest or experience in machine learning or other AI techniques.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift light loads overhead.
  • May be required to work in close proximity to high voltage power sources.
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for 25% of the time.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Operates in a professional office and industrial laboratory environment.

This is primarily an in-office (not remote) position. No regular travel is expected.

Pay

Salary Pay Range: $111,850.00 - $186,400.00 per year. This range is a good faith estimate based on qualifications, experience, operational and business needs, and other considerations permitted by law.

This position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, in an amount to be determined by MKS.
