About the role

The Senior Electrical Systems and Maintenance Manager oversees the safe and efficient operation of all electrical systems across various operations. This role includes managing maintenance teams, implementing preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, leading incident investigations, and driving continuous improvement in system reliability and uptime.

Responsibilities

  • Manage change processes for engineering design modifications, software deployment, PLC changes, electrical protection, and safety protection systems.
  • Promote and enforce a strong electrical safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70/70E, NEC, IEEE, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and administer preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, and implement reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices.
  • Monitor electrical system health using thermography, power quality analysis, relay event data, and condition monitoring tools.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting medium- and low-voltage systems, participate in commissioning and startup of new equipment, coordinate outages, and support emergency response and rapid fault diagnosis.
  • Supervise and develop electricians, technicians, and contractors, conduct performance reviews, and manage staffing schedules and on-call rotations.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as uptime, MTBF, MTTR, and maintenance cost per MW, identify failure trends, and implement root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Support energy efficiency and power quality improvement initiatives, and lead capital improvement projects and lifecycle replacement planning.
  • Develop and manage annual maintenance budgets, forecast capital expenditures, evaluate and manage service contracts and vendors, and ensure spare parts inventory optimization for critical components.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7–10+ years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance.
  • 3+ years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of medium-voltage systems, switchgear and protective relays, power distribution systems, motors, VFDs, MCCs, transformers and grounding systems, instrumentation and controls for process equipment, data communication systems and protocol.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms.
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication skills (technical and executive level).
  • Strategic planning and reliability mindset.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Electrical failure diagnosis and root cause analysis.
  • Industrial setting with exposure to high-voltage equipment.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and variable weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • NETA certification.
  • Experience with power generation systems, protection relays (SEL, ABB, GE Multilin, etc.), generator synchronization and paralleling, SCADA and PLC systems.

Skills

Technical proficiency in medium-voltage systems, switchgear and protective relays, power distribution systems, motors, VFDs, MCCs, transformers and grounding systems, instrumentation and controls for process equipment, data communication systems and protocol. Experience with CMMS platforms, working knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards, excellent communication skills, strategic planning and reliability mindset, strong leadership and team development skills, electrical failure diagnosis and root cause analysis, and ability to work in high-pressure operational environments.
