Senior Electrical Power Engineer
About the role
The power generation market is experiencing significant growth driven by strong capacity demand signals. Our national Power Generation team is poised for substantial expansion, and we are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Lead teams for power generation design projects, including supporting in a traditional Owner’s Engineering role.
- Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Support in managing client relationships and lead marketing activities including proposal technical writing, fee builds, and work breakdown structure development.
- Mentor young engineers and act as a lead on multi-discipline consulting teams.
- Direct the activities of other engineering professionals and provide guidance on complex projects.
- Work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed.
- Manage project documentation and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new technologies and methodologies in the field of power generation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical power generation design.
- Experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm.
- Excellent communication, written, and organizational skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently, as a lead on a multi-discipline consulting team, or as a lead on a small team.
- Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, physical design, and experience with other activities such as lighting and grounding design, including instrumentation and control and life safety systems.
- Ability to work with Project Manager and Project Controller on project reviews with management as needed.
- Experience with project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience.
- Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. HDR is committed to providing competitive salaries and benefits packages.
Schedule
This position is full-time and requires less than 10% travel for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visits.
