About the role

The Senior Electrical Estimator leads all aspects of electrical estimating for large-scale advanced manufacturing, semiconductor, mission critical, and industrial construction projects from conceptual budgeting through Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) development.

This position provides technical leadership in cost planning, estimate development, bid management, value engineering, procurement strategy, and risk analysis while ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, and owner requirements.

The Senior Electrical Estimator serves as the subject matter expert (SME) for all electrical systems and works collaboratively with owners, engineers, trade partners, procurement teams, and project leadership to develop accurate, competitive, and executable project estimates.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of conceptual, schematic, design development, and GMP-level electrical estimates.
  • Own complete electrical estimate deliverables including quantity takeoffs, pricing, labor productivity, indirect costs, escalation, and contingency recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain electrical estimating standards, assemblies, historical databases, and benchmarking tools.
  • Validate estimate accuracy through continuous reconciliation against design evolution and market conditions.
  • Serve as the electrical SME for power distribution, medium voltage, low voltage, emergency power, generators, UPS systems, grounding, lighting, controls, raceway systems, and specialty electrical infrastructure.
  • Review design documents for completeness, constructability, and cost impacts.
  • Identify scope gaps, overlaps, design risks, and coordination issues early during design.
  • Recommend cost-effective engineering alternatives while maintaining project performance and reliability.
  • Lead electrical subcontractor prequalification, bid package development, bid leveling, and scope alignment.
  • Cookordination procurement strategies for long-lead electrical equipment including: Switchgear, Transformers, Busduct/ Busway, Generators, UPS systems, MCCs / Distribution boards / Panelboards, Cable and wire, Specialty electrical equipment.
  • Evaluate subcontractor qualifications, technical capabilities, pricing, and execution strategies.
  • Support contract negotiations and scope clarifications.
  • Develop conceptual budgets utilizing benchmarking, historical cost data, and market intelligence.
  • Perform quantity verification and estimate reconciliation through all phases of design.
  • Evaluate cost impacts associated with design revisions, owner changes, and market escalation.
  • Identify estimating risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Support contingency development and risk management planning.
  • Coordinate closely with: Owners, Design consultants, Electrical engineers, Preconstruction teams, Project managers, Procurement teams, Trade partners.
  • Participate in design review meetings and value engineering workshops.
  • Present estimate updates, assumptions, and cost drivers to executive leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary electrical estimating resource during pursuit, design-assist, and preconstruction activities.
  • Lead electrical value engineering initiatives that improve constructability while reducing project cost.
  • Evaluate alternate materials, equipment selections, installation methodologies, and procurement strategies.
  • Develop life-cycle cost comparisons and return-on-investment analyses where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with design teams to optimize project value without compromising quality or performance.
  • Maintain electrical estimating databases, labor units, assemblies, and historical cost information.
  • Utilize estimating software, BIM models, and quantity takeoff tools to improve estimate accuracy and efficiency.
  • Develop standardized estimating templates and reporting dashboards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating organization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of electrical estimating experience on large commercial, industrial, semiconductor, mission-critical, healthcare, or advanced manufacturing projects.
  • Deep knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, labor productivity, procurement practices, and subcontractor management.
  • Proven ability to develop conceptual estimates through GMP pricing with strong cost-planning and budgeting skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in quantity takeoffs, BIM, estimating platforms, and digital construction tools.
  • Strong understanding of major electrical systems, including: High, Medium, and Low Voltage Distribution, Emergency Power, Generators, UPS, Grounding, Fire Alarm / ERRCLighting, Controls / I&C, Low Voltage Systems / DAS.
  • Expertise in procurement strategy, trade partner coordination, and relationship development.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead value engineering efforts and conduct cost-risk analysis.
  • Experience supporting advanced manufacturing and mission-critical environments.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with executive-level communication and presentation capability.
  • Strategic problem-solving skills and the ability to mentor and develop estimating teams.
