About the Role

VERUS is looking for a self-motivated, organized, and results-driven Senior Electrical Engineering Lead to join our close-knit team. This position allows those with a degree in electrical engineering to grow and advance into a principal/lead electrical engineer role. We need someone who is accountable, well-organized, takes pride in meeting deadlines and milestones, and enjoys a good challenge. Our ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and understands codes, standards, engineering best practices, and quality control, while balancing technical excellence with practical engineering.

This role serves as a key operational anchor for our Reno office, providing daily mentorship and task management to team members while driving targeted project management initiatives. We seek someone authentic, trustworthy, approachable, and humble—someone who will fit well with our existing team and elevate our engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee daily workflow for staff in the Reno office, ensuring accountability and professional growth.
  • Function as a project manager for internal and cross-functional initiatives—tracking project budgets, managing deliverables, monitoring timelines, and identifying process efficiencies.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the local Reno team and central management to align operational goals and maintain high-quality project execution.
  • Serve in a client-facing role as a senior electrical engineer on utility, industrial, and commercial electrical engineering projects.
  • Design low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems, lighting systems, and other electrical systems for utility, industrial, and commercial facilities.
  • Engineer and design utility, industrial, and commercial control system integration, including interconnections and control panel design.
  • Execute, oversee, and take overall design responsibility for electrical and controls engineering tasks, including design, engineering calculations, and specifications.
  • Manage a project team working on comprehensive electrical and controls design packages, including electrical and control diagrams, plans, details, panel arrangements, bill of materials, and hazardous area classification.
  • Coordinate assigned electrical and controls work package deliverables, including collaboration with other disciplines and drafting teams.
  • Prioritize and set deadlines while remaining adaptable to changing needs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Provide mentorship and career development for engineering team members.
  • Work in the field for engineering surveys and commissioning activities.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • 2-3 years of experience managing, leading, or mentoring team members in an office setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from scope to delivery, including project cost tracking, schedule management, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Solid understanding of engineering practices and the development of engineering documents.
  • Professionally licensed in the State of California or able to obtain license by comity.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Microstation (or both) is preferred.
  • EIT (FE) certification is preferred but not required; intention to take the FE or PE exam in the near future is a minimum requirement.

Benefits

VERUS is an employee-owned company that values its team. We offer:

  • A client-focused, innovative, and collaborative work environment.
  • Competitive pay and benefits.
  • A "work hard, play hard" culture with respect for work/life balance.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
  • A genuine, respectful, and supportive team culture.
