Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and provide leadership in developing test and manufacturing engineering processes, equipment and tooling to build and test 13.8 kV up to 138 kV, including such items as Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), Medium Voltage Distribution transformers, and Medium Voltage Switchgear.
- Perform detailed engineering calculations, modeling, and simulations for relevant electrical parameters.
- Develop, review, and approve critical engineering manufacturing and test process documentation: ensure Bills of Material (BOMs) and manufacturing and test system parameters are accurate by working collaboratively with Document control.
- Conduct substation retrofits, expansions, and seamless integration with various control systems and DCS/SCADA platforms.
- Participate in thorough technical reviews of designs for major electrical equipment packages, such as transformers, switchgear, and other possible auxiliary systems.
- Provide hands-on field support, including commissioning, troubleshooting complex issues, and conducting root cause failure analysis of substation and power systems.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Ensure all product designs meet strict regulatory and customer requirements, particularly IEEE, ANSI/NEMA, and UL standards.
- Develop and oversee test plans, including routine, type, and special testing, to validate design performance and reliability.
- Provide advanced technical support to the Quality and Manufacturing teams to resolve complex non-conformance issues and drive root cause analysis (RCA) for field failures.
Project Leadership & Mentorship
- Serve as the technical lead on cross-functional product development projects, ensuring execution aligns with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide technical guidance, coaching, and mentorship to less-experienced engineers and designers.
- Stay current with emerging MV technologies, standards, and best practices to drive innovation and technical capability.
- Collaborate with sales and proposals teams to define technical solutions for custom customer specifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE); Master's degree and/or PE license preferred.
- Over 10 years of direct, relevant experience in substation engineering and/or power distribution.
- Deep technical knowledge of high voltage electrical equipment and distribution systems.
- Strong understanding of industry standards (IEEE, NEC, ANSI/NEMA).
- Demonstrated experience in project and team coordination.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, with a proven ability to lead technical discussions and explain complex concepts to diverse teams.
