Senior Electrical Engineer - Mission Critical (Denver)

Burns & McDonnell offers exciting opportunities for experienced electrical engineers to join our Mission Critical team, focusing on high-tech data center projects. This role involves leading design, planning, and client coordination for high, medium, and low voltage electrical distribution and control systems in mission-critical, healthcare, and industrial environments. The position is part of a fast-growing, multibillion-dollar industry with international reach and collaborative work across multiple departments.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical systems and equipment to meet client reliability and uptime requirements for mission-critical facilities, ensuring compliance with applicable codes.
- Advise clients on electrical system requirements and solutions.
- Monitor installation of designed systems to ensure compliance with design documents.
- Conduct fault studies, load flow analysis, and develop design criteria for protective device coordination, relay applications, medium voltage transformers, switchgear, and low voltage distribution.
- Lead the design of electrical master plans for facilities, including reliable power distribution, motor control centers, energy-efficient lighting, communications/telecom routing, HVAC instrumentation and controls, fire-alarm interfaces, UPS systems, and engine generators.
- Review electrical designs and specifications for purchased or fabricated equipment and systems.
- Provide electrical design direction and resource management on multi-discipline projects.
- Develop concept studies, designs, and narratives.
- Participate in identifying, recruiting, and managing resources to meet business needs.
- Perform all other assigned duties.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program with successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
- Expert knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong familiarity with electrical equipment design ANSI and IEEE standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant computer skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks to team members.
- Ability to lead team execution and resolve issues in a collaborative environment.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
- Willingness to travel (up to 15%).
Pay
Annual compensation range: $155,000 – $215,000. The final compensation will be based on factors such as education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. Eligibility to participate in a discretionary year-end incentive bonus program is included.
