Overview
Join Matrix Technologies as a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Industrial Control Panel Design. In this role, you'll design PLC control panels, MCCs, VFD systems, and industrial automation solutions for manufacturing, food & beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical clients.
What you'll be working on
- PLC control panel design
- MCC and VFD panel design
- Industrial power distribution systems (typically 480 VAC and below)
- PLC I/O design and electrical schematics
- Motor control circuits and power distribution
- UL508A and NEC-compliant electrical designs
- Industrial automation projects for manufacturing, food & beverage, chemical, and pharmaceutical clients
- Multi-discipline EPC and design-build projects
- Field installation support, startup assistance, and client interaction
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical control packages based on project requirements and process documentation (P&IDs).
- Develop PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
- Design motor control circuits, MCC interfaces, and VFD systems.
- Develop three-line diagrams, cable schedules, and conduit layouts.
- Apply NEC, NFPA, and UL standards to project designs.
- Prepare project scopes of work, design concepts, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Cook with clients, internal engineering disciplines, and contractors throughout project execution.
- Support installation activities, contractor bid walks, startup activities, and I/O verification.
- Lead portions of projects and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
- Promote and uphold Matrix safety standards, project methodologies, and engineering best practices.
Qualifications
- Required- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEE/BSEET) from an ABET-accredited institution.
- 5+ years of experience designing industrial control panels, MCCs, VFD systems, or automation-related electrical systems.
- Experience developing electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of material.
- Knowledge of NEC and industrial electrical design standards.
- Strong communication and client-facing skills.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to travel approximately 20-25%, including occasional overnight travel.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Preferred- FE or PE certification.
- UL508A knowledge and experience.
- AutoCAD Electrical, AutoCAD, or similar electrical design software experience.
- Experience with PLC hardware, industrial control networks, instrumentation, and automation systems.
- EPC project experience.
- Experience in food & beverage, chemical, pharmaceutical, or manufacturing industries.

Compensation
We offer market-competitive compensation for a Senior Electrical Engineer-Industrial Controls & Panel Design with a base range of $90,000 to $128,000 annually that includes profit sharing, ESOP participation, 401(k) matching, and overtime pay. Salaries are based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
