About the role

The Senior Forward Reliability Engineering & Support Engineer collaborates within the organization to review and develop processes or systems for effective management of the electric grid. They work in an environment focused on next-day analysis rather than Real-Time actions or Long-Term Transmission Planning.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze the power system using techniques learned in school or gained through career experience and make changes to the operating plan to ensure a successful operating day.
  • Design future processes to ensure compatibility within MISO and external customers, addressing exciting industry changes or new software requirements.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in group tools and processes, ensuring inter-departmental handoffs without assistance within one year.
  • Change at least one process or tool that impacts analysis or inter-departmental handoffs within one year.

Requirements

  • At least a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering technology, electrical and computer engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, or electronics and computer engineering.
  • Five or more years of experience in the energy industry, including utility, transmission operations, transmission planning, power system studies, real-time operations, or related experience.
  • Two years of experience utilizing power flow tools such as EMS security applications, TARA, PSS/E, POM, or DSATools.
  • Steady State Power Flow Analysis experience.
  • Stability Study experience.

Qualifications

  • Able and willing to be available after hours or weekends to support shift needs.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C, Python, SQL, appropriate level to be determined based on experience and knowledge.

Skills

  • Power system knowledge.
  • Ability to make measurable, realized, and direct impact on the operation of the Bulk Electric System.
  • Collaboration with multiple departments internal to MISO, Member utilities, and external resources.
  • Proficiency in group tools and processes.

$119,000.00 - $144,000.00 USD annually.
