About the role

The Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Centers at Black & Veatch is a progressive role within a global organization known for delivering impactful solutions. This role involves leading the delivery of design-only, design-build, and construction only projects in Electrical Engineering deliverables for Data Centers projects. Responsibilities include providing subject matter expertise, training and developing early career and inexperienced professionals, and working with a collaborative team of engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&Veatch policies.
  • Applies knowledge and ensures compliance with B&Veatch quality program. Establishes related processes, and promotes a culture that is conducive to quality.
  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects. Performs complex research and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements. Develops and applies advanced engineering solutions to complex problems.
  • Coordinates with all other internal/external team members on complex projects. Typically responsible for defining project schedules for single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines.
  • Identifies key client interests and drivers on projects. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns in the performance of the work on complex projects.
  • Works to identify future client needs and how to better position B&Veatch for the future. May offer other services to the client.
  • Serves as the technical specialist in a broad area of specialization, or in a narrow but specialized field. Develops and applies advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems.
  • Oversees performance management, career planning, recognition, learning and development, and corrective actions. May participate in compensation management, succession planning, disciplinary actions, employee relations and workforce planning. Actively mentors lower level and mid level professionals and identifies successors to train in the specifics of their role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing or equivalent experience in engineering work.
  • Minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary (U.S. Professional Engineer License).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Previous Project Lead experience in Data Center Designs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency.
  • Understanding of design differences in hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centers.
  • Possesses a proficiency in 3D modeling as well as managing and creating complex families with custom parameters within Autodesk Revit.
  • Familiarity with Data Center tier rating systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Autodesk Revit.
  • Experience utilizing BIM 360, Navisworks, Revit work sets, view templates and project phasing.
  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous environment.
  • Self-motivated to deliver results when given a deadline.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and leverage data and metrics to challenge current assumptions.
  • Sound, professional communication skills to engage in client-facing activities.
  • Ability to lead projects including management of project schedules, budgets, and staffing.
  • Support business development, including developing scope-of-work, level-of-effort, and site visits to understand the scope of the pursuit.
  • Strong leadership skills, with desire to train and develop early career and/or inexperienced professionals.

Skills

Annual compensation ranges for this role are listed below by state or jurisdiction and reflect the applicable office location(s) within each. Final compensation is determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal alignment, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.

Schedule

Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
