Senior Electrical Engineer, Data Center Operations

About the role

This is a full-time exempt (40+ hours/week), field-based role requiring 100% travel to project sites across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical oversight and review of electrical system designs across the full data center power distribution chain
  • Evaluate and guide designs for:
    • Middle-voltage distribution systems
    • Low-voltage distribution systems
    • UPS architectures
    • Switchgear and power distribution equipment
    • Rack-level power delivery infrastructure
  • Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices
  • Review electrical topologies and provide recommendations based on reliability, redundancy, maintainability, and operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and design guidelines for data center electrical infrastructure
  • Support multidisciplinary design reviews and coordinate with mechanical, controls, commissioning, and operations teams
  • Identify design risks and implement solutions that improve resiliency, efficiency, and constructability
  • Support commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities for new facilities
  • Conduct site visits, engineering assessments, and technical audits across active project locations
  • Maintain technical consistency across multiple concurrent projects and deployments
  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout project lifecycles
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to electrical infrastructure and operational performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and applicable industry experience
  • 8+ years of experience designing electrical systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large-scale industrial infrastructure
  • Experience supporting the full electrical power chain from utility service through rack-level delivery
  • Previous experience working for:
    • Hyperscale cloud providers
    • Mission-critical engineering firms
    • Large-scale infrastructure organizations supporting hyperscale environments
  • Strong understanding of common data center electrical topologies, including:
    • 2N
    • N+1
    • Catcher Bus
    • Distributed Redundant
  • Ability to evaluate the benefits, limitations, and operational trade-offs associated with each topology
  • Experience reviewing complex electrical designs and enforcing engineering standards
  • Strong understanding of electrical reliability, redundancy, and operational resilience principles
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple concurrent projects
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively (100%)
  • Experience supporting high-density compute environments, including:
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
    • Machine Learning (ML)
    • High Performance Computing (HPC)
  • Familiarity with electrical requirements supporting GPU-intensive workloads
  • Experience with:
    • Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Liquid cooling electrical infrastructure
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9 guidelines and mission-critical thermal design considerations
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain licensure within 18 months
  • Experience with electrical system modeling, analysis, and design software
  • Familiarity with industry standards including:
    • NEC (NFPA 70)
    • TIA-942
    • NFPA 110
    • IEEE 446
    • NFPA 70E
    • IEEE 1584
