Senior Electrical Engineer - Data Center
About the role
This position is available in HDR's Building Engineering Services team in Denver, Colorado. The team focuses on designing critical infrastructure that supports the digital age and shapes spaces where people work, connect, and thrive. The ideal candidate will lead teams and design projects from start to finish, ensuring they meet the needs of clients in Science and Technology, Mission Critical, and Commercial projects.
Responsibilities
- Mentoring/Managing: Help grow a team that works together to create a collaborative environment that promotes career growth, the production of high-quality construction documents, client satisfaction, and acts as a safety net for each other.
- Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers, EITs, and BIM Specialists with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project’s development.
- Mentor, organize, and facilitate the growth of junior staff.
- Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
- Establish client relations, and participate in marketing, design, and production meetings regarding electrical systems.
- Aid Marketing and Business Development groups in developing fee proposals and scope of work documents for Electrical and EPMS scopes of work.
- Assume the electrical lead on data center/mission critical projects.
- Work with clients to understand their project specific requirements around reliability, growth increments, first cost versus life cycle costs, sustainability, construction schedules, and future flexibility.
- Provide detailed design and coordination with multidisciplinary team members.
- Attend and lead design meetings with other team members.
- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.
- Perform QA/QC review of construction documents, specifications, and technical reports.
- Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
- Support design support during construction including field observations, submittal & shop drawing review, Request for Information (RFI) support.
- Some travel to job sites or other HDR offices could be required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
- A minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
- Extensive knowledge of the NEC, uninterruptible power systems, power distribution, generator support systems, grounding systems, and one-line creation.
- Strong desire to stay current with the trends of the fast-paced industry of mission critical.
- Working knowledge of the Uptime Topology standards.
- Working knowledge of the following programs: Bluebeam Revu, SKM Power Tools (or similar power system analysis tools), CYMCAP (or similar programs based on Neher-McGrath and IEC-60287 methods), and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of Newforma Project Center and/or ProjectWise Document Management Software.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Data Center/Mission Critical experience in an architectural/engineering, or engineering consulting firm.
- Strong desire to mentor and train younger electrical engineers.
