Senior Electrical Engineer - Buildings

WSP is seeking a full-time Senior Electrical Engineer for our Dallas, TX office. This role is ideal for an engineer looking to work within a team-focused local office of a large global engineering firm, with a strong emphasis on career development, mentoring, and employee satisfaction.

About the Role

This opportunity involves providing technical assistance and guidance for multi-site and multi-phase projects, including due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction. Projects span utility, industrial, and commercial sectors in both public and private domains. Key responsibilities include:

• Research, design, concept development, and construction of transmission and distribution substations, power distribution, power regulation, renewable energy, and protection and control systems across utilities, transportation, building, and government projects.
• Substantiating reports and documentation for material, installations, component, and construction specifications.
• Ensuring deliverables meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Responsibilities

• Oversee complex new construction, renovation, and electrical infrastructure projects, including review and approval of design plans to ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques across all project phases: concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
• Plan and incorporate future-ready techniques, operating strategies, and electrical design requirements.
• Prepare and review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding, short circuit studies, overcurrent protective device coordination, one-line diagrams, and protective relaying.
• Lead MEP engineering projects, including budget preparation, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring performance, supervising subcontractors, and managing costs and quantities of materials, equipment, and labor.
• Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and update electrical infrastructure layout plans in coordination with owners, disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, concepts, and recommendations.
• Provide guidance and leadership to project members with strict adherence to QA/QC.
• Stay current with the latest electrical engineering techniques and practices.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer, providing design deliverables for large capital projects.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
• Proficient knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and their application to permitting and project-related issues.
• Knowledge of electrical engineering standards and codes (NEC), building codes (ICC), and energy codes (IECC).
• Ability to utilize innovative analytical techniques to solve complex technical problems.
• Experience coordinating and managing tasks within larger projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and related tools.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level projects, including tracking hours and expenses.

• Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Experience with healthcare projects.
• Additional project management experience.

Pay

Expected salary range: $97,000 - $141,350, based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location.
