Senior Electrical Engineer - Buildings

Responsibilities
- Work on projects of high complexity with a team of design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects for various types of facilities.
- Supervise staff of all levels to develop their skills and career goals, and support them through client meetings, design progress reviews, and construction administration.
- Select and engineer all electrical systems and products for projects, and prepare and review documentation in various phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
- Lead the development of design through sketches, engineering calculations, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats, and lead project coordination meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure quality assurance and quality control on own projects and those of peers, and develop new standards and specifications for the electrical engineering group.
- Perform field work to review existing facility conditions and contractors’ work, and provide client consultation and support for new project proposals.
- Maintain current knowledge of technologies and trends, and continuously improve skills.
- Implement sustainable design principles into the building design and surrounding environment.
Requirements
A strong understanding of electrical engineering concepts and the ability to communicate ideas effectively. Knowledge of power distribution systems, lighting systems, and low voltage systems. Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes. Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications. Ability to apply sustainable design principles within projects. Ability to integrate design elements with other disciplines at the conceptual and/or schematic programming design phase. Knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as NFPA Standards, International Building Codes, and Applicable Energy Codes. Strong client communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead multiple overlapping projects and design teams while maintaining project execution excellence and schedule. Ability to recognize and address technical problems, manage time to meet project budget and schedule, and provide direction and feedback to senior and junior engineers and designers. Ability to develop sketches, drawings, building programs, and perform calculations based on project specific parameters, such as load calculations, short circuit studies, and lighting calculations. Ability to produce reports and studies, and interpret findings of reports or studies prepared by others. Ability to produce project specific technical specifications independently from an industry or office standard master specification. Ability to participate in and provide insight into project planning and budgeting with other disciplines and project leaders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical or Architectural Engineering with a lighting/electrical emphasis required.
- Minimum 15 years in related professional experience.
- Professional Engineering license required.
- LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
