Senior Electrical Engineer
Location: Portland, OR. Salary Range: $94,700–$110,000 per year. The range is a general guideline for Oregon-based positions; final offer considers qualifications, experience, scope of the role, and market/business considerations.
About the role
Design, develop, and test a wide range of electrical components, equipment, and machinery. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform assignments. Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals, working with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; creativity and latitude are expected to resolve problems of diverse scope. The role is with Curtiss-Wright's Williams Controls business unit, which manufactures electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic throttle controls, configurable joysticks, adjustable pedal systems, sensors, hand controls, and armrest systems for all types of commercial vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Determine design approaches and parameters.
- Analyze equipment to establish operating data; conduct a wide range of experimental tests and evaluate results.
- Select components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
- Review vendor capability to support product development.
- Effectively manage and support New Product Introduction (NPI), specifically the design of electronic circuitry, circuit design, and PCB layout.
- Ensure all design and procurement activities meet the specified NPI needs and deadlines, as well as internal quality and industry regulatory standards.
- Effectively manage and support existing products by analyzing/debugging interface circuits for customer applications; ensure issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner with minimal disruption to production.
- Oversee the review of products (both NPI and existing) for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), ensuring that the capability of electronic equipment or systems can operate in the intended application.
- Actively participate in cross-functional teams to identify and address production and development issues; ensure teams take appropriate steps to troubleshoot problems as they arise in order to minimize defects on final manufactured parts and products.
- Manage and lead the development of new testing hardware and software to support the manufacturing operation, as well as new product development, on an as-needed basis.
- Interface with Manufacturing Engineers on issues regarding NPI, PCB, and EMC requirements.
Requirements
- Proficiency in designing, developing, and testing electrical components, equipment, and machinery.
- Ability to make decisions or provide suggestions based on rules or procedures.
- Experience with CAD circuit design software and circuit simulation software (Altium experience is a plus).
- Experience operating equipment such as voltmeter, oscilloscope, power supply, Helmholtz coil, and frequency generator.
- Design for EMC experience.
- Experience with Design and Process FMEAs preferred.
- Root cause analysis experience.
- Worst-case analysis experience.
- Customer-focused mindset with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Superior planning and organization skills with attention to detail; ability to operate under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft products: Altium, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio.
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, ideally in the automobile or commercial vehicle industry.
