Senior Electrical Engineer
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to direct and execute electrical design for mission critical projects. Typical project types include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and power systems studies such as Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash.
This role involves executing electrical design projects independently, from concept-level discussions through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. You will interface with internal design leads (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) and external disciplines (architectural, civil, structural). The ideal candidate will also contribute to growing the company’s electrical expertise through internal training, development of design standards, and quality control oversight.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical infrastructure for mission critical buildings and campuses, including:
- Campus-level medium voltage distribution
- Highly redundant power systems (distributed and block redundant topologies)
- On-site generation and UPS backup
- Building systems such as small power, lighting, grounding, and fire alarm
- Coordinate with internal and external disciplines for electrical power connections.
- Interface monitoring systems for electrical equipment with controls and telecommunications engineers.
- Define key performance criteria for power monitoring systems (EPMS), including specifications, points lists, and network hierarchies.
- Review client standards, design criteria, applicable standards, and best practices to apply to designs.
- Apply local and national construction codes and project specifications.
- Produce detailed design documents using Autodesk Revit.
- Use Microsoft tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) for project collaboration.
- Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables.
- Travel to project sites as required (approximately 10-20% travel).
- Communicate clearly in written and spoken forms.
- Lead engineers, designers, and modelers, coordinating tasks across multiple teams for simultaneous project delivery.
- Mentor and train other engineers, designers, and modelers to develop electrical design expertise.
- Maintain excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Requirements
- 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering with an electrical focus preferred. 2-year degrees and EET degrees with relevant work experience will be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
- Experience in electrical design for larger industrial and commercial buildings; mission critical design experience is a strong plus.
- Experience performing and reviewing power studies (Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, arc flash) is strongly preferred.
- Experience across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including submittals, shop drawings, existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
- Experience leading electrical design teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred; unlicensed candidates with appropriate experience are welcome to apply.
Pay
Base compensation: $125,000–$350,000 (varies based on education, experience, skills, and location).
Benefits
- 36-hour standard work week with hybrid working arrangement.
- 13 paid holidays.
- 100% coverage of medical, health, and dental insurance premiums for full-time employees; subsidized premiums for spouse and family.
- Employer-sponsored life and long-term disability insurance.
- 401(k) plan with annual safe harbor contribution.
- Reimbursement of professional licensing costs.
