About the role
We are seeking a Senior Level Electrical Engineer to direct and execute electrical design for mission-critical projects. Typical projects include greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients, campus planning, conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and power systems studies (e.g., Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash). This role involves independent execution of electrical design, from concept discussions through permitting and construction, while coordinating with internal (mechanical, telecommunications, fire protection, plumbing) and external (architectural, civil, structural) design leads. The ideal candidate will also contribute to growing the company’s electrical expertise through training, design standards, and quality control practices.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical infrastructure for mission-critical buildings and campuses, including medium-voltage distribution, redundant power systems (distributed and block redundant), on-site generation, UPS backup, and building systems (small power, lighting, grounding, fire alarm).
- Coordinate with internal and external disciplines for electrical power connections and monitoring system interfaces (e.g., EPMS) with controls and telecommunications engineers.
- Define key performance criteria for power monitoring systems, including specifications, points lists, and network hierarchies.
- Review client standards, design criteria, applicable codes, and best practices to ensure compliance and alignment with project requirements.
- Apply local and national construction codes and project specifications to design work.
- Produce detailed design documents using Autodesk Revit.
- Utilize Microsoft tools (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams) for project collaboration and documentation.
- Meet project deadlines, including working extended hours as needed to complete major deliverables.
- Travel to project sites as required (approximately 10-20% travel).
- Communicate clearly in written and verbal forms with team members and clients.
- Lead engineers, designers, and modelers, coordinating tasks across multiple teams to deliver projects simultaneously.
- Mentor and train team members to expand the company’s electrical design knowledge base.
- Maintain strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Qualifications
- 4-year degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering (electrical focus preferred); 2-year or EET degrees with relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in facility electrical design, with proficiency in Autodesk Revit for drawing development.
- Experience in electrical design for large industrial and commercial buildings; mission-critical design experience is a strong plus.
- Experience performing and reviewing power studies (e.g., Neher-McGrath, short circuit, coordination, arc flash) is strongly preferred.
- Experience across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including submittal reviews, shop drawings, existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists.
- Experience leading electrical design teams and interfacing with clients is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud.
- Knowledge of controls and monitoring systems for mechanical and electrical systems is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred; unlicensed candidates with relevant experience are welcome to apply.
Pay
Base compensation: $125,000–$350,000 (varies based on education, experience, skills, and location).
