About the Role

The successful candidate will work semi-independently in a small multi-disciplinary team, utilizing their experience to analyze and design electronics and electrical systems. This role involves developing embedded devices and modules to power, generate, and receive signals for prototypes and field-deployable systems. The ability to read, comprehend, and generate professional-quality design documentation is required.

This position supports the design, development, testing, and operational phases of projects at Peraton Labs, the research and development arm of Peraton. The candidate will work closely with a diverse team of engineering, scientific, and technical staff to develop novel solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, and testing experimental and production systems.
  • Providing engineering oversight of technical staff when appropriate.
  • Hands-on work to test electronics, diagnose failures, and render repairs if needed.
  • Developing and reviewing documentation packages including schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and test plans.
  • Developing embedded computing and digital signal processing designs and applications.
  • Providing expertise in analyzing analog and digital circuitry with both known and unknown properties.

Requirements

Education and Work Experience:

  • BS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 12 or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • MS in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.
  • PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 7 or more years of relevant professional experience.

Required Skills/Attributes:

  • Experienced in generating and reading State Machine, Logic, Flow, and Interconnection Diagrams.
  • Experience with Schematic and PCB layout tools such as KiCad.
  • Experience with analog simulation software (e.g., SPICE).
  • Skilled in electrical circuit testing and analysis, including prototyping sub-systems.
  • Experience creating electrical sub-systems and prototypes for field-deployable systems using fully customized designs or adapter modules.
  • Familiarity with lab/bench hardware such as oscilloscopes, power supplies (AC and DC), and spectrum analyzers.
  • Ability to communicate designs through presentations and provide material for review.
  • Familiar with C, C++, Python, or MATLAB for automating data collection and analysis.
  • Experience with analog data acquisition and signal conditioning techniques.
  • Experience with designing and troubleshooting cabling and interconnectivity.
  • Proficient in writing technical documentation in MS Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship.

Desired Skills/Attributes:

  • Experience with mechanical or optical engineering.
  • Experience with in-depth analysis of electrical systems for reverse engineering.
  • Experience with design version control and configuration management.

Pay

Target salary range: $135,000 - $216,000. Salary is determined by various factors, including scope and responsibilities of the position, individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
