Senior Electrical Engineer
Role Definition
The Sr. Electrical Engineer role at Keen reports to the Automation and Electrical team lead and works closely with project delivery teams to execute assigned projects. They must have a strong electrical design background, lead team members on electrical engineering projects, and be a licensed SE or PE. They will be able to use creativity to make drawings and specifications, perform calculations with accuracy, write evaluations and reports, and participate in job site observations. A Sr. Electrical Engineer will have the ability to accurately and efficiently design power distribution, grounding, lighting, and communication systems for ag and industrial projects using hand calculations and a variety of design software. They will have 15+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience and have the ability and willingness to teach and mentor others. A successful Sr. Electrical Engineer will showcase their range of communication skills; being able to communicate with client business leaders, utility providers, technical peers, installation contractors and plant operations and maintenance resources.
What You'll Do
- Put safety first, whether in the design of systems or installation of projects.
- Work with cross functional project teams to define project scope, develop designs, implement solutions, and commission complete systems.
- Lead, teach, and mentor junior team members.
- Work across electrical and automation functions to develop solutions with assigned project teams.
- Create design documents to achieve the scope of the assigned projects.
- Model power systems in SKM software delivering Arc Flash analysis to customers.
- Cook up coordination with Project Management teams to outsource and manage electrical subcontractors.
- Develop and sustain broad electrical knowledge and capability allowing Keen to deliver on its 'Drive Innovation' promise.

- LEAD, MANAGE, AND ACCOUNTABILITY
- Communicate effectively to establish, lead, and contribute to internal/external engineering/design teams.
- Maintain clear, consistent communication with the team and customers via all channels.
- Develop engineering teams for effective design, issue resolution, problem-solving, and accurate plans; provide cross-department support as needed.
- Teach and mentor team members.
- PROPOSALS & PRE DESIGN
- Establish and manage electrical scope, schedule, and budget.
- Collaborate with internal/external partners, engineers, and professionals to define project technical parameters, develop conceptual design, and scope.
- Provide input on critical path schedules for design/procurement phases, factoring in resources and hand-offs for procurement, fabrication, and construction.
- Estimate time and cost for electrical engineering work.
- Aid in developing cost estimates across project stages.
- Work with partners to pre-plan identify constraints, and manage design risks.
- LEAD ELECTRICAL DESIGN
- Research and ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal codes, permits, and standards using internal/external expertise.
- Prepare and execute design services to meet client expectations for clarity, timeliness, quality, completeness, and efficiency.
- Integrate new technology and/or environmentally friendly practices into processes.
- Critique designs for safety, manufacturability, constructability, failures, usage, functionality, and efficiency.
- Serve as the Engineer of record on assigned projects.
- Lead electrical design on projects, make recommendations/decisions, and oversee quality of drawings, specs, reports, and docs.
- Analyze issues via data, field work, experiments, and team dialog to improve designs and cut warranty callbacks.
- Contribute to design efforts of all project parties (owners, engineers, architects, consultants, contractors, PM staff).
- Ensure safety for personnel, customers, operators, subs, and public in designs per OSHA, MSHA, IBC, IFC, NFPA, and other regs.
- Strong oral/written communication skills; comfortable presenting designs to owners.
- PROCUREMENT & CONSTRUCTION ADMIN
- Optimize resource use and ensure cost-effective procurement per contracts and budgets.
- Conduct site observations and report deficiencies, non-conformance, safety/quality issues, and improvements to senior PM.
- Oversee and review shop drawings for conformance with construction documents.
- Comply with project risk programs (contracts, insurance, bonding, owner/regs); identify, investigate, and propose risk solutions.
- CLIENT RELATIONS & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
- Participate in business development and customer service via professional representation and interactions with customers, partners, suppliers, and industry contacts.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships based on performance and trust.
Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
- Licensed PE or SE required, P. Eng in Canada a plus.
- 15+ years of electrical engineering experience in design/modification/evaluation of power systems for industrial/commercial projects.
- Experience in electrical design for ag/industrial projects is a plus.
- PREFERRED EXPERIENCE WITH REVIT, 3D SOFTWARE (NAVISWORKS/RECAP), SKM, ETAP, AND MICROSOFT OFFICE.
Physical Demands

- Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
- Must be able to see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear most of the day.
- Must be able to work in cold/hot environments and on concrete floors.
- Occasionally requires walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, bending, and crouching.
