About the role
The Senior Electrical Designer position at Merrick & Company is responsible for designing power systems primarily for heavy industrial facilities, oil, gas, and chemical projects. This role involves complete electrical designs performed at the drawing level, assisting the engineering team with drafting responsibilities and some design tasks.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of building systems (conceptual design)
- Working knowledge of codes and standards including NFPA 70, 72, 101, 110, 780; UL 96A; ASHRAE 90.1
- Aid in the selection of appropriate systems/products for building/facility owners
- Design lighting systems, understand various lighting and lamp applications, color temperatures, circuiting, and control
- Design power distribution, panelboard schedules, grounding, and protection designs
- Coordinate connections of all power utilization
- Document calculations reflecting code compliance of lighting, power load, and voltage drop calculations
- Design fire alarm systems, telecommunications, CCTV, and intrusion detection systems
- Provide quality control reviews for self-performed designs and those by others
- Support construction with problem-solving for field oversight, including RFI handling
- Create shop drawings, submittals, and field inspection/reports
- Monitor and ensure incorporation of all project comments and markups into design documents
Requirements
- High School Diploma required
- Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical designing and drafting
- Experience in AutoCAD and Revit
- U.S. Citizenship required for client projects

Skills

- Knowledge of emergency systems, legally required systems, and optional standby systems
- Ability to document calculations reflecting code compliance of lighting, power load, and voltage drop calculations
- Knowledge of EIA/TIA standards for telecommunications design
- Ability to provide quality control reviews for self-performed designs and those by others
- Ability to support construction with problem-solving for field oversight, including RFI handling
- Ability to create shop drawings, submittals, and field inspection/reports
- Ability to monitor and ensure incorporation of all project comments and markups into design documents

Pay
The hourly pay range for this position is $40.00 - $52.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
