About the role
The Controls Engineer will work in a team environment to develop products from concept stage to production ready. Support existing production products through VAVE and Continuous Improvement efforts.
Responsibilities
- Independently designs complete appliance electrical systems and controls ranging from simple products to complex systems to satisfy customer requirements.
- Organizes electrical design plan and technical strategy to assure successful execution from concept to launch.
- Communicates design intent through creation of robust engineering or product specifications and along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance to designers and development partners for successful design execution.

- Directs, coordinates, supports and/or audits manufacturing and electrical system and controls assembly activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications and customer expectations.
- Provides electrical/controls technical leadership for project teams.
- Project focused efforts to ensure that technical solutions are delivered to support overall project needs.
- May mentor junior engineers.
- Directs third party component integration and compatibility to assure product performance in specified operating environments.
- Utilizes knowledge and expertise on industry standards and regulatory requirements such as UL, CSA and FCC to lead development as well as teach team in this area.
- Writes and reviews electrical/controls test plans and procedures. Predicts test performance based on sound engineering practices.
- Directs and participates in the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and/or pre-production builds.
- Uses project management software. Helps create project schedule and adhere to timelines. Tracks time associated with specific tasks.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to LCI's safety and personnel policies.
- Works with customers to understand needs and issues, evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar technical degree is preferred.
- Experience in Electromechanical product development.
Competencies
- Solid electrical and controls engineering experience; engineers electrical systems with no supervisory technical oversight.
- Strong working knowledge of electrical and controls specifications, able to fully relate detail component drawings with no assistance and can instruct others in most related topics.
- Strong experience with NPI processes, leading technical tasks such as Risk Analysis, FMEA, PFMEA, product specification, etc.
- Experience handling highly complex electrical/controls engineering issues and problems, drawing valid conclusions based on robust data collection and fact-based review for conclusions.
Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member will be required to talk and hear.
- This position may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
- The Team Member may have to lift and/or move items over 35 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas where the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
- For the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as typically found in the office environment, however, working outdoors is sometimes required.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
This is a full-time salary position, and expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; weekend and overnight work is also necessary.
Travel
Travel is expected for this position approximately 5/8 time per year (totla of 10-20 overnights).
