Senior EHS Manager

About the role

This position manages and provides professional Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) leadership and guidance to key portions of the La-Z-Boy enterprise. Directly responsible for all issues involving Plant Safety/Health, OSHA compliance, Safety Training, Development/maintenance of EHS Policy and Procedures, Site Security, and Managing the Worker’s Compensation system at a single location with multiple business units. This role manages multiple direct reports as well as a nursing and security team.

Responsibilities

• Establish and promote a work environment that is, and continues to be, safe and healthy. Ensure occupational environmental, health, and safety hazards are identified, evaluated, and controlled in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Develop, recommend, and implement policies and procedures to control occupational environmental, health, and safety hazards and associated risks. Communicate and foster a safety culture beyond mandated requirements.
• Develop and maintain appropriate reporting and accountability systems. Ensure company compliance with all Federal and Local EHS regulations.
• Establish and ensure all applicable Environmental permitting and reporting requirements are met, and the facility follows all local and federal laws.
• Ensure all departments comply with applicable EHS regulations and the company’s philosophy of worker safety, which may exceed OSHA or environmental regulations.
• Serve as the primary advisor on EHS issues for all management levels, emphasizing the importance of environment, health, and safety within line management.
• Maintain relationships with government and industry EHS personnel and regulatory agencies to ensure the company can comment on proposed regulations.
• Coordinate internal resources to analyze pending regulations, present their impact to management, and communicate the company’s position.
• Lead, direct, and manage all worker compensation activities, including managing relationships with treating physicians and attorneys.
• Oversee all safety aspects of assigned production facilities, including safety operating systems, ergonomics, and hazard identification and control.
• Manage and lead investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring follow-up on root cause elimination.
• Promote and lead aspects of the Residential Division and Corporate EHS Agenda, including project management and implementation of corporate-wide projects.

Scope & Impact

Responsible for managing Worker's Compensation costs of $50K - $6.5 million; leading OSHA compliance initiatives and potential fine mitigation; and overseeing the overall environmental, safety, and health system for the location. Directs environmental compliance to mitigate fines, reduce environmental impact, and protect La-Z-Boy’s reputation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Environment, Health, and Safety or a related field with 6-8 years of relevant experience, or equivalent.
• 5–8 years of supervisory/leadership experience in EHS within a manufacturing environment.
• Up to 15% travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proven success leading, developing, and/or implementing a safety operating system.
• Knowledge of applicable state regulations.
• Certification in a specialized EHS field (e.g., Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Environmental Engineering).

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages a team of up to 7 direct or indirect reports.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Office environment with no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands.
