Stores Economics and Science (SEAS) is an interdisciplinary team in Amazon's Stores organization focused on applying science and engineering to optimize local to global decision-making processes. We achieve this by integrating frontier scientific knowledge, collaborating with partner teams, and drawing on the diverse perspectives and experiences of others.
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Economist to lead impactful economic analysis and modeling that guides strategic decisions within Amazon's Stores business. This role involves working closely with a team of economists, scientists, and engineers to formulate key business questions, develop rigorous analytical frameworks, and provide actionable insights to senior leadership and partner teams.
Responsibilities
- Develop economic models and empirical analyses to inform strategic decisions
- Design and analyze experiments to test hypotheses and inform strategy
- Translate complex findings into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical audiences
- Mentor junior economists and contribute to raising the standard of economic rigor across partner teams
Qualifications
- PhD in Economics or equivalent experience
- Deep expertise in causal inference and applied econometrics
- Experience in econometrics (program evaluation, forecasting, time series, panel data, high-dimensional problems)
- Experience in economic theory and quantitative methods
- Experience working with software developers and product managers
- Experience building statistical models using R, Python, STATA, or a related software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problems
- Industry, consulting, government, or academic research experience
- Familiarity with machine learning models
