About the role
Stores Economics and Science (SEAS) is an interdisciplinary team in Amazon's Stores organization. Our mission is to apply expertise in science and engineering to optimize local and global decision-making processes. We achieve this by integrating frontier science, collaborating with partner teams, and drawing upon the tools, experience, and perspectives of others. We scale our efforts by tackling problems locally to validate concepts before scaling globally through the development of scalable solutions. Additionally, we contribute to the growth of Amazon by hiring and developing top talent who can embed themselves within other business units.
Responsibilities
- Drive high-impact economic analysis and modeling that shapes strategic decisions for Amazon's Stores business.
- Work in a team of economists, scientists, and engineers to identify key business questions, design rigorous analytical frameworks, and deliver actionable insights to senior leadership and partner teams.
- Own end-to-end research (from problem formulation and data analysis through modeling and stakeholder communication) in areas such as pricing, demand estimation, substitution measurement, and experiment design.
- Develop economic models and empirical analyses that inform strategic decisions.
- Design and analyze experiments.
- Translate complex findings into clear recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor junior economists and help raise the bar on economic rigor across partner teams.
Qualifications
- PhD in Economics or equivalent
- Experience in econometrics (e.g., program evaluation, forecasting, time series, panel data, or high dimensional problems), economic theory, and quantitative methods
- Experience working with software developers and product managers
- Experience in building statistical models using R, Python, STATA, or a related software
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in developing and executing an analytic vision to solve business-relevant problems
- Experience in industry, consulting, government or academic research
- Experience with machine learning models
Pay
The base salary range for this position is $159,200.00 - $215,300.00 USD annually.
