Senior Ecological Risk Assessor

This opportunity is for a Senior Ecological Risk Assessor with the potential to work out of any of our WSP offices, including Atlanta, GA; Kansas City, MO; Gainesville, FL; Valhalla, NY; Morristown, NJ; Buffalo, NY; or Boston, MA.

About the Role

Be involved in projects with our Federal Programs Team and be part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges. The successful candidate will collaborate with our current team of risk assessment professionals to support our growing risk assessment and toxicology practice in project planning, execution, public outreach, and stakeholder communication.

Risk assessments will be prepared to meet the requirements of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and many States’ environmental regulatory programs. The position involves coordination and implementation of project work associated with multimedia (air, water, and soil) risk assessments, environmental regulatory compliance in the industrial/commercial and government sectors, and project management.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise technical assignments and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects.
• Serve as lead ecological risk assessor, authoring proposals and projects.
• Engage in extensive client and regulator interaction, particularly in scoping ecological risk assessments and applying risk assessment results in site decision-making.
• Provide technical review for projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company standards, contract requirements, and related specifications.
• Occasionally travel for projects, conferences, business development, or training.

Requirements

• B.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in conducting, authoring, directing, and performing technical review of multi-media ecological risk assessments with increasing levels of project complexity and responsibility.
• Extensive hands-on knowledge of ecological risk assessment principles, procedures, and guidance, particularly USEPA CERCLA.
• Demonstrated successful interactions across a range of private sector and governmental clients.
• Experience in performance and technical review of multi-media screening level and baseline ecological risk assessments for common and emerging contaminants.
• Completion of projects through feasibility studies and Records of Decision (including identifying risk-based remedial goals).
• Extensive experience in scoping, managing, and conducting ecological risk assessment components for each stage of the CERCLA process, including development of work plans and QAPPs (evaluating sampling strategies and appropriateness of data for risk assessment).
• Experience with risk communication with clients, stakeholders, and at conferences, including presenting complex technical information concisely and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.
• Experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).

Pay

Expected salary (all locations): $103,000 - $166,900. WSP USA provides this compensation range based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and internal equity, as well as specific geographic location.

Expected salary (Colorado only): $103,000 - $156,600. This range reflects the company’s good-faith estimate for this position within Colorado, considering the same factors as above.
