About the role

The Senior Discovery Scientist will provide inVue system discovery resources to drive pipeline capability for New Product Development activities. This role involves performing scientific research leading to the development of commercial products for IDEXX, inventing or identifying new reagents, biomarkers with associated antibodies, biotechnology processes, scientific technologies, novel chemistries, and solutions.

You will engage in cutting-edge, theoretical research while maintaining business acumen to understand materials and processes that are manufacturable with commercial potential. Promising concepts will be transitioned to new product development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scientific research leading to the development of commercial products for the Company.
  • Conduct rigorous evaluations to determine if new discoveries align with Company product strategy.
  • Engage in cutting-edge, theoretical research while assessing manufacturability and commercial potential.
  • Work with diseases or platforms that change diagnosis paradigms.
  • Invent or identify new reagents, biomarkers with associated antibodies, biotechnology processes, scientific technologies, novel chemistries, conjugation methods, and other innovations.
  • Explore novel applications and create patentable technologies.
  • Evaluate new technology and perform conjugations, analyte characterizations, and other scientific procedures.
  • Partner with disease leaders, medical affairs, marketing, operations, quality, regulatory, legal, business development, and other teams.
  • Present ideas and data to other parts of the organization for feedback on feasibility and promise.
  • Stay current with new science and technology developments, with the freedom to explore areas unrelated to immediate product development.
  • Maintain knowledge of intellectual property (IP) and monitor the IP landscape through literature searches and other methods.
  • Solicit collaborations with outside researchers, organizations, and universities.
  • Develop a network of technical and business stakeholders, including professors and industry leaders; present at scientific meetings.
  • Develop strategic marketing partnerships.
  • Assist in the preparation of peer-reviewed manuscripts and patent applications.

Requirements

  • PhD required.
  • In-depth understanding of biological and chemical principles and concepts as they relate to commercial products.
  • Experience working in novel and variable situations requiring analytical and creative thinking.
  • Demonstrated complex problem-solving skills and the ability to apply a broad range of tools to critically evaluate, interpret, and summarize data, proposing next steps.
  • Demonstrated project planning and management skills to meet technical project deadlines; effectively manages collaborators as appropriate.
  • Strong organizational skills and technical decision-making skills with associated risk assessment.
  • Significant independent action on technical matters.
  • Demonstrated customer orientation, teamwork, and cooperation across units.
  • Commitment to quality improvement; flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Strong process development and improvement ability.
  • Excellent verbal, technical writing, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to maintain accurate and clear documentation.
  • Good presentation skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and with others.
  • Excellent laboratory skills and technique.
  • Goal-oriented and highly motivated individual.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Some travel required.
