Senior Director, Strategic Pricing
About the role
The Senior Director, Strategic Pricing provides leadership, strategic direction, and structure to the Strategic Pricing teams. This role is critical in driving improved sales and profitability by optimizing pricing across all merchandising departments, geographies, and channels. The Senior Director oversees the implementation of capabilities—including processes, systems, and analytics—to empower Merchandising teams with incremental opportunities to drive sales and margin, aligning with the company's vision and priorities.
This role is responsible for building strong Pricing Centers of Excellence, equipping Merchandising teams with tools and structure needed to optimize the business, and providing actionable insights based on credible business intelligence. The Senior Director is a thought partner to merchandising and cross-functional team leaders, fostering meaningful and lasting change across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Establish and lead the enterprise pricing vision, strategy, and operating model, ensuring pricing, promotional, and value initiatives support long-term company growth, customer perception, and profitability objectives.
- Own and evolve Sprouts' enterprise pricing strategy, balancing customer value, competitive positioning, sales growth, and margin performance across all merchandising categories, geographies, and channels.
- Sponsor the development and modernization of enterprise pricing capabilities, analytics platforms, and decision-support tools that enable scalable, data-driven business decisions across Merchandising and enterprise functions.
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive and functional leaders, influencing enterprise priorities, identifying organizational capability gaps, and aligning resources to maximize business performance and strategic outcomes.
- Build and lead a high-performing, multi-level Strategic Pricing organization and Center of Excellence, creating scalable capabilities, succession pipelines, and thought leadership that drive enterprise value.
- Influence enterprise decisions by balancing short-term business needs with long-term strategic objectives, serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
- Shape an inclusive, high-performance culture that fosters innovation, accountability, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership development across the organization.
- Establish enterprise governance, frameworks, and operating standards that optimize pricing decisions, drive sustainable business performance, and support organizational agility.
- Lead and measure enterprise transformation initiatives, evaluating emerging opportunities, technologies, and innovative business models that strengthen competitive advantage and financial performance.
- Empower, support, and develop talent to perform to their maximum potential, strengthening the team through capability development, talent management, succession planning, and recruiting.
- Lead through multiple layers of leadership, ensuring organization alignment, strategic execution, and delivery of high-impact recommendations that influence enterprise decision making and business outcomes.
Requirements
- 15+ years’ experience in retail/CPG company/consulting with progressively increasing responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, supply chain, or analytics preferred.
- 8+ years’ experience building, leading, and motivating teams.
- Expert knowledge of retail, merchandising, and end-to-end processes in a multi-channel retail environment.
- Broad knowledge of pricing, forecasting, segmentation, cross-functional applications, and systems.
- Merchandising experience including pricing, assortment planning, financial planning, item planning, location planning, and category management.
- Experience with retail price optimization tools and third-party competitive data providers.
- Demonstrated experience influencing executive leadership and driving enterprise-wide business decisions.
- Demonstrated success in communicating across various levels of organizations, aligning teams to strategic vision, and motivating teams to execute change.
- Analytical mindset with detail orientation and entrepreneurial work ethic – a “general athlete.”
- Demonstrated success in leading teams and efforts to create process efficiencies.
- Proven ability to translate data into insights and insights into action.
- Builds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts.
- Ability to present and calibrate on critical challenges at the executive level.
