Senior Director of Marketing
Position Summary
The Senior Director of Marketing and Communications provides strategic leadership for all marketing, communications, branding, and public relations efforts of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York (ADNY), a mission driven nonprofit provider serving vulnerable individuals and families across the Archdiocese of New York.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive mission consistent marketing and communications strategy that is fully aligned with Catholic Charities’ organizational, service delivery and funding priorities.
- Serve as a senior advisor to Catholic Charities’ CEO, and Board on communications strategy, reputation management, and public messaging.
- Ensure brand consistency, tone, and visual identity across all communications.
- Oversee brand positioning and storytelling that reflects Catholic Charities’ organizational values, the dignity of the human person, and our commitment to serving those in need.
- Lead the development of a comprehensive media strategy that allows for measurable targets and objectives.
- Support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, stewardship materials, and grant-related communications.
- Collaborate with the Development team to support fundraising campaigns, donor communications, stewardship materials, and grant-related communications.
- Provide guidance and oversight of creative development across print, digital, video, and social media platforms that ensures consistent messaging across all marketing and development efforts.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a high-performing marketing and communications team that delivers on clear and consistent performance goals and objectives.
- Oversee relationships with external vendors, agencies, freelancers, and consultants.
- Manage departmental budget and resources effectively.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00 AM to 5 PM Monday - Friday. Please note that additional night and weekend hours will be required to meet deadlines and attend events.
Working conditions and physical demands
Remain in a stationary position at a workstation and use a computer at least 50% of the time. Travel for outreach, events and meetings at least 30% of the time using vehicle or public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions. Engage with the public in social environments. Work under demanding conditions such as deadlines and project challenges.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience in marketing and communications, with senior leadership experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing organization-wide communications strategies.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills for diverse audiences.
- Experience working with media, senior executives, boards, and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of a Catholic nonprofit organization.
Preferred Experience
- Preferred: Experience in a nonprofit, social services, healthcare, faith-based, or public-sector organization.
- Familiarity with Catholic social teaching and Church-affiliated institutions.
- Experience supporting fundraising and donor communications.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
