Senior Director of Engineering, AI Agents

About the role

For our client, we are seeking a Senior Director of Engineering, AI Agents to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space. This leader will shape the technical direction for an AI agent platform that supports production use at scale. The role will focus on building and operating intelligent systems, strengthening evaluation and feedback loops, and driving new capabilities that improve customer outcomes. You will partner closely with Product, Infrastructure, and customer-facing teams to align technical execution with business goals and ensure reliable, responsible deployment. You will also lead a growing engineering team, represent the function in leadership discussions, and help translate technical progress into clear organizational impact.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Pay

$175,000 – $210,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Own the technical architecture and roadmap for the AI agent platform
• Lead and grow a team of engineers responsible for operating production systems
• Develop the evaluation infrastructure with quality metrics and feedback loops
• Drive the creation and scaling of new agent capabilities and workflows
• Collaborate with Product to align agent capabilities with business outcomes
• Partner with Infrastructure teams to ensure system observability and resilience
• Engage directly with customers to gather feedback and improve agent performance
• Establish best practices for responsible deployment of autonomous systems
• Represent AI engineering in leadership discussions and communicate the technical narrative

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering with hands-on leadership experience at the Director level or equivalent
• Experience building and operating LLM-powered systems with real user volumes
• Strong understanding of AI architecture, including orchestration and context management
• Proven track record of developing evaluation systems for non-deterministic software
• Experience in both zero-to-one product builds and scaling established systems
• Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and align technical and business goals
• Hands-on experience with modern AI coding tools, such as Codex and Claude Code
