About the Role

We are seeking a strategic and technical leader to deliver data products and associated AI applications aimed at accelerating the Immunology R&D Pipeline. This role reports through the Research & Development Data Science & Digital Health (DSDH), directly to the Vice President, Immunology and Cardiopulmonary, DSDH. The successful candidate will lead a team to accelerate and scale the development of foundational enterprise data products and deploy a diverse set of scaled AI models and solutions for the entire Immunology therapy area.

This role ensures that high-value internal and external Immunology data assets—including preclinical, translational, clinical, competitive intelligence, and real-world data (RWD/RWE)—are standardized, productized, and integrated into Johnson & Johnson’s enterprise R&D data ecosystem. The position involves horizontal engagement with the Immunology TA as well as teams in R&D Data Science and Digital Health.

The primary location for this position is flexible: Cambridge, MA; Spring House, PA; Raritan, NJ; Titusville, NJ; or San Diego, CA. This is an on-site role with no fully remote option available. Occasional travel for cross-functional workshops, design sessions, and team meetings may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to develop technical requirements for Immunology-facing data products that enable AI applications.
  • Attract, upskill, and retain top talent in the field; manage a technical team, and collaborate with key stakeholders in R&D, DSDH, and Johnson & Johnson Technology (JJT).
  • Define and maintain a roadmap for Immunology data products, spanning discovery, translational research, clinical development, and real-world evidence.
  • Partner with Knowledge Management, Data Platforms & Governance, and Master Data Management teams to ensure Immunology data products integrate seamlessly into enterprise ontologies, knowledge graphs, and catalogs.
  • Lead a team that works with key business partners to develop and deploy impactful and scalable AI solutions for Immunology.
  • Contribute to the development and governance of an Immunology Ontology to enable semantic consistency across discovery, clinical, regulatory, and real-world data.
  • Establish and work with governance models, agile delivery processes, and value-tracking metrics for Immunology data products and AI tools.
  • Champion data literacy and adoption within the Immunology therapeutic area (TA).

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (PhD) in disciplines such as Computer Science, AI/ML, Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or similar.
  • Minimum of 10 years of post-academic, industry, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with diverse, high-dimensional data sets, such as multi-modal Immunology data, including omics, imaging, translational, clinical trial, and RWE data.
  • Extensive experience in creating scalable and impactful data-driven solutions, including managing their full life cycle (design, development, testing, deployment, operations & maintenance, etc.).
  • Strong experience in people leadership and ability to work in a matrixed organization.
  • Deep knowledge of data products, database design, and data transformation/mapping.
  • Excellent communication skills and strategic thinking capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical, or Medical Tech sector.
  • Experience with Immunology Ontology, enterprise metadata standards, and external frameworks (e.g., CDISC, GA4GH, FHIR, NCI Thesaurus).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive adoption of new data capabilities across a complex organization.

Pay

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $196,000 to $342,700.
