Senior Director, Global Trade Compliance
About the role
Moog is hiring for a Senior Director of Global Trade Compliance in East Aurora, NY. This role will lead the development and execution of global trade compliance strategies, manage import/export activities, and serve as a key advisor to internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Enterprise Trade Compliance Strategy & Governance
- Develop and own the global trade compliance vision, strategy, and operating model aligned to corporate risk tolerance and growth plans.
- Establish a governance structure that ensures consistent implementation across all regions, business units, and supply chains.
- Set global policies and minimum standards for imports, exports, sanctions, customs, and supply chain security.
- Collaborate with legal, supply chain, and business teams to support business goals and strategies, addressing compliance risk in ways that create competitive advantage.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for government agencies and external auditors and manage relationships with key regulators.
- Lead a global trade compliance team of 35+ professionals located at domestic and international Moog locations.
- Design and implement programs focused on automation and introduce and implement trade-focused tools and systems to enhance efficiencies of trade processes and proper integration with the business.
- Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations including: Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Customs regulations (CBP, EU Customs Code, etc.), Global sanctions and embargoes, Anti-boycott regulations.
- Lead the trade enterprise risk assessment program, identifying emerging regulatory risks and proactively mitigating them.
- Oversee classification, valuation, origin determination, and licensing processes.
- Lead internal trade audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
- Oversee licensing, classification, and denied party screening processes.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure proactive compliance.
- Global Oversight of Trade Compliance Operations
- Ensure end-to-end compliance in global operations (imports, exports, broker activity, logistics partners).
- Oversee screening programs (denied parties, restricted countries, end-use/end-user).
- Ensure robust controls, monitoring, recordkeeping, and audit processes.
- Drive adoption of trade automation and compliance technology platforms.
- Regulatory Engagement & External Advocacy
- Serve as the senior corporate representative to: Customs authorities, Export control agencies, Trade policy and regulatory bodies.
- Shape and influence global trade policy changes that impact the business.
- Manage escalated government inquiries, audits, and enforcement actions.

- Strategic Business Partnership
- Advises executive leadership, supply chain, sales, and product teams on trade compliance implications of strategic decisions, including: Market entry/exit, M&A due diligence and integration, New product introductions, Strategic sourcing and manufacturing shifts.
- Enables business growth while protecting the organization from regulatory and operational risk.
- Trade Compliance Program Development & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain a global trade compliance program aligned to industry standards (e.g., WCO SAFE, CTPAT, AEO), ensuring, among other things, comprehensive training for those functions where trade compliance is key to business execution.
- Lead enterprise initiatives on trade efficiencies, such as duty savings, tariff engineering, and free trade agreement utilization.
- Implement continuous improvement through analytics, KPIs, and maturity assessments.
- Organizational Leadership & Capability Building
- Lead a global organization of trade compliance professionals.
- Define competency models, training programs, and talent development strategies.
- Create a culture of compliance, accountability, and high ethical standards across the enterprise.
- Crisis Management & Incident Response
- Oversee response to trade compliance incidents, voluntary disclosures, and enforcement cases.
- Ensure structured root-cause analysis and enterprise-level corrective actions.
- Communicate significant risks to the Board or Executive Committee when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree or JD highly desirable.
- Over ten (10) years of trade compliance experience, ideally within industrial or manufacturing sectors.
- Strong subject matter expertise regarding U.S. and international trade regulations.
- Prioritization of developing and applying creative, effective, and efficient trade compliance solutions.
- Proven experience managing global teams and complex compliance programs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
- Experience working effectively with regulatory agencies.
- JD or advanced degree preferred.
- Must live local to the Buffalo, NY area to work on-site, or willing to relocate.
