About the role

The Senior Director, Solid Tumor Communications & Public Affairs is accountable for shaping and leading the global communications and public affairs strategy for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine’s Solid Tumor portfolio. This is a hybrid role with a preferred location of Raritan, NJ although New Brunswick, NJ or Spring House, PA may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive global communications strategy for the Solid Tumor portfolio, aligned with Innovative Medicine business priorities and enterprise standards.
  • Serve as primary strategic communications advisor to Solid Tumor franchise leadership, providing counsel on external positioning, risk assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Shape the global narrative for Solid Tumor across disease areas, marketed products, pipeline assets, and scientific platforms, ensuring clarity, consistency, and differentiation.
  • Oversee communications strategy for priority launches, major data readouts, lifecycle milestones, and key growth brands, in close partnership with local market leads, Launch Communications and Performance Accelerator teams.
  • Partner closely with Public Affairs to drive market-shaping, policy, and advocacy strategies that enable access and improve the operating environment for Solid Tumor medicines.
  • Guide integrated communications planning across media relations, issues management, scientific congresses, disease education campaigns, and executive visibility.
  • Align with regional and market communications leaders to ensure global strategy is effectively adapted, shaped, and executed locally, particularly in Top 10 markets.
  • Anticipate, assess, and manage issues and reputational risks affecting the Solid Tumor portfolio, in close coordination with Enterprise and regional teams.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including media, scientific experts, advocacy organizations, and policy influencers within the oncology community.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Solid Tumor communications team, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute as a senior leader within the Innovative Medicine Communications & Public Affairs organization, elevating standards, capabilities, and impact across therapeutic areas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Life Sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in communications, public affairs, or related external engagement roles.
  • Significant experience leading communications for complex, global pharmaceutical portfolios or therapeutic areas, preferably in oncology.
  • Deep understanding of the biopharmaceutical environment, including commercialization, access, policy, and reputational dynamics.
  • Proven experience in issues and crisis management within a highly regulated environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, executive presence, and influencing skills in matrixed organizations.
  • Ability to integrate enterprise, regional, and market perspectives into cohesive strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in oncology or adjacent specialty disease areas.
  • Experience working closely with Public Affairs, Market Access, and Government Affairs partners.
  • Global experience across multiple regions and markets.
