About the role

Bring your real estate legal expertise to a role where your leadership directly influences the growth of one of North America's largest value retailers. As a Senior Director, Legal Real Estate, you will lead a team of experienced attorneys responsible for supporting Dollar Tree's aggressive store growth strategy, complex leasing transactions, construction initiatives, and real estate operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of experienced in-house real estate attorneys responsible for supporting Dollar Tree's real estate growth initiatives and existing portfolio of stores.

  • Foster a collaborative, solutions-oriented culture focused on delivering exceptional client service to internal business partners.

  • Contribute to the preparation, review, and execution of a high volume of complex retail leases, acquisition related documents, and related real estate agreements.

  • Provide counsel to internal business partners and the Senior Director’s team on lease negotiation, risk assessment, and dispute avoidance strategies.

  • Support strategic initiatives involving complex real estate transactions.

  • Serve as a legal advisor to Construction and Property Management teams on matters involving new stores, remodels, maintenance programs, and capital projects.

  • Provide legal support for construction-related contracts and contractor disputes.

  • Advise on lease and other legal issues impacting property management and ongoing landlord-tenant relationships.

  • Partner closely with the Vice President, Legal Real Estate, internal Real Estate leadership, and external partners to enhance legal processes and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

  • Member of the Virginia State Bar or eligible to become licensed in Virginia.

  • Minimum of 10-12 years of experience practicing real estate law, either in-house or with a law firm.

  • Significant experience negotiating and managing commercial real estate leases and related agreements.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high volume of complex transactions in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong business judgment and ability to provide practical, solution-oriented legal advice.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail real estate experience supporting large multi-site organizations.

  • Construction law experience, including development and construction contracting.

  • Experience leading, mentoring, or managing attorneys and legal professionals.
