About the role
The Senior Director, Compound Development Team Leader (CDTL) role is within Johnson & Johnson's Innovative Medicine division, focusing on the development of oncology treatments and cures. This role requires a strong leader with extensive experience in clinical development programs.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to Compound Strategy decision-making by ensuring relevant research, analysis, and expertise is available.
- Leads CDT in partnership with line functions to successfully develop the compound, maximizing its value over its lifecycle while minimizing costs and time without compromising quality.
- Builds team effectiveness and leads the Compound Development Team (CDT) to achieve its goals through effective communication and negotiation with function heads.
- Identifies potential issues and leads contingency planning; drives CDT problem-solving and decision-making.
- Drives CDT to make effective and efficient decisions; resolves conflicts at various levels including the Oncology SLT, Development Committee, Investment Committee, Group Operating Committee, and joint steering committees for partnered compounds.
- Ensures successful implementation of clinical supplies strategy; manages the budget and project plan deliverables.
- Acts as co-chair of global project teams with Alliance partners and aligns global strategy within partnerships, as applicable.
- Represents the interests of the compound/brand along with the global commercial lead at the Oncology SLT.
- Builds and maintains team effectiveness and satisfaction; drives innovation by benchmarking.
- Works with functional management to secure required resources for project success; aligns goals and objectives with CDT members; coaches and guides CDT members; provides input for performance evaluation of CDT members.
Requirements
- Preferred qualifications include a PhD, MD, or M.D./Ph.D with minimum of 8-10 years of experience, or a Master's degree with 10-12 years of experience in a leadership role as part of a research-driven pharmaceutical company.
- Experience in leading clinical development programs in the appropriate therapeutic area is preferred.
- A solid understanding of and involvement in the entire drug development process is required.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with interdisciplinary teams to access and optimize resources for development programs and experience working in a matrix organization.
- Business-oriented, with a proven record of leading projects from Discovery to Early Development and advancement of projects through preclinical and clinical development to Phase 2b.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential.
- Strong problem-solving skills for developing creative solutions and meeting project objectives.
- Strong project planning and tracking skills.
- Demonstrated ability for strategic thinking and contingency planning.
- Expert knowledge of the drug development process and familiarity with pharmaceutical portfolio risk management.
- Understanding of requirements for successful commercialization of a new product.
- Expert interpersonal skills for bridging between scientific and business participants, for negotiating timelines, resources, and for effective international collaborations.
- Strong analytical skills for integrating and interpreting interdisciplinary project information.
- High degree of organizational awareness and understanding of change management.
Pay
The anticipated base pay range for this position is $196,000.00 - $342,700.00.
