About the role
The Sr. Director, Clinical Solutions serves as an acting COO to the Clin-tech Market President/General Manager and executes on strategic plans to achieve above-market growth and profitability in delivering Clinical solutions to our customers. This role owns specific market-based initiatives, develops plans to deliver on overall market MBOs, and acts as a point of escalation across the market, ultimately driving profitable growth and deployment of the overall Clinical portfolio across the market.
Where appropriate, the Sr. Director, Clinical Solutions will work with internal (matrixed and within the business unit) leaders at an executive level across Optum Insight, Optum Health, and Optum RX to align on customer plans and priorities. The role involves developing detailed plans and driving ongoing updates to these plans, supporting a market covering $250M+ in annual revenue.
You will partner with and lead matrixed teams in support of account objectives for revenue, earnings, growth, and client satisfaction. This includes engaging with sales, operations, product, and technology teams, as well as other groups at the Optum level required to deliver upon aggressive growth and innovation objectives.
This role requires an individual who understands how to get things done at Optum through influence by leveraging extensive interpersonal and collaboration skills. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within the U.S.
Responsibilities
- P&L leadership for the clinical market in support of the Clin-tech Market President/General Manager.
- Strategic market-based projects and initiatives, including:
- Detailed planning and ongoing updates to support the clinical market covering $250M+ in annual revenue.
- Refine capital investment plans in collaboration with product and operations leaders, with ongoing engagement on outcomes.
- Develop and engage across all market teams on MBO target setting, path to achieve, and hold the market accountable.
- Identify market opportunities and engage with executive leadership to act on them, with a deep understanding of players, trends, competitors, and vendors.
- Act as acting COO for the clinical market, serving as a point of escalation for market teams with internal executive leaders across operations, product, growth office, tech, and marketing.
- Build relationships and drive day-to-day activities across market teams to identify and resolve risks/opportunities in client management, growth strategy, talent/resourcing gaps, and operational improvements.
- Proactively identify opportunities for 'standard operating procedure' development to ensure consistency and efficiency in market roles/structure.
- Lead team members across the matrix to develop approaches that increase value and impact for clients.
- Drive business rhythm, tracking growth, performance, and team activities.
- Engage across market teams to cross-share client issues, growth opportunities (including product bundling), and build initiatives to increase overall performance.
- Drive outcomes with internal matrix business stakeholders to ensure customer centricity, high NPS scores, renewal rates, delivery against customer needs, profitable growth, and representation of the voice of the customer in current and future products/technologies.

Requirements
- 10+ years in some combination of sales, account management, product, consulting, and/or P&L management leadership roles.
- 5+ years of experience and expertise in healthcare, particularly with clinicians, providers, and provider networks.
- 5+ years of experience working with clients, building relationships, issue management, and resolution.
- 5+ years of demonstrated success in leading and managing within a matrix environment, driving accountability, and influencing within direct and indirect spheres of control.
- 3+ years of P&L leadership experience.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with process improvement and methodology development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading and/or supporting clinical programs.
- Experience supporting Optum Markets (Providers, Employers, Payers, Federal/State government, Emerging Markets).
- Experience working across UHG, Optum, and/or UHC lines of businesses.
- Direct experience working with product and technology teams.
- Experience across Analytics, Care Continuum Delivery, ITO, AI, and Revenue Cycle services for Providers.
- Experience in human capital/people management, budgeting, project management, operations, and strategy.
- Proven application of change management methodologies.
- Proficient skills and knowledge of servant leadership, resilience, resourcefulness, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
- Exceptional communication, critical thinking, leadership, and organizational skills.

Pay
The salary for this role will range from $159,300 to $273,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
