Senior Director, AI Engineering -Agentic AI Platform(Remote Eligible)
About the role
The Intelligent Foundations and Experiences (IFX) team at Capital One is dedicated to advancing the state of the art in science and AI engineering. This role involves partnering with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that transform how associates work and customers interact with Capital One. Key responsibilities include overseeing the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components, making build-vs-buy decisions, and introducing state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques.
Responsibilities
- Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products
- Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of AI software components
- Make high judgment build-vs-buy decisions across a broad stack of Open Source and SaaS AI technologies
- Invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques to improve AI system performance, scalability, cost, latency, and throughput
- Contribute to the technical vision and long-term roadmap of foundational AI systems at Capital One
- Build and retain top talent in the AI industry and foster a culture of learning and professional development
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI or Master's degree in a relevant technical field with at least 10 or 8 years of experience respectively
- At least 5 years of people leadership experience
- Experience managing and leading an engineering team
- Experience deploying scalable and responsible AI solutions on cloud platforms
- Experience developing AI and ML algorithms or technologies
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant technical field
- Passion for staying abreast of the latest AI research and applying novel techniques in production
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or AI plus at least 10 years of experience developing or leading AI and ML algorithms or technologies
- Master's degree plus at least 8 years of experience developing or leading AI and ML algorithms or technologies

Pay
Remote (Regardless of Location): $286,200 - $326,700 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
Cambridge, MA: $314,800 - $359,300 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
McLean, VA: $314,800 - $359,300 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
New York, NY: $343,400 - $392,000 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
San Francisco, CA: $343,400 - $392,000 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
San Jose, CA: $343,400 - $392,000 for Sr. Director, AI Engineering
