About the role

The Senior Digital Product Designer, Design Systems role at Sandisk involves owning and evolving the design system that powers our products across platforms. This includes design tokens, component architecture, theming capabilities, interaction patterns, accessibility standards, and implementation quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own and evolve our design token architecture across color, typography, spacing, motion, elevation, iconography, and semantic foundations, with strategies that hold up across themes, platforms, and future needs.
  • Design, document, test, and maintain reusable UI components and patterns that meet accessibility requirements and platform conventions.
  • Partner with Engineering to set implementation standards, align on component architecture and APIs, and hold quality through design QA and implementation reviews.
  • Scale the system across mobile, tablet, and desktop with responsive, platform-appropriate behavior, plus flexible theming, localization, and internationalization.
  • Spot system gaps and build solutions ahead of upcoming product work.
  • Set governance, documentation, and adoption standards that keep the system consistent and maintainable over time.
  • Educate and support designers and developers in the effective use of the design system.
  • Champion consistency, scalability, and design excellence by promoting system-driven thinking across teams.
  • Measure and continuously improve the design system's effectiveness, quality, and adoption.
  • Contribute to broader product design work, including new feature flows, journey mapping, wireframing, and concepting to support user testing and product exploration.

Requirements

This role requires a deep understanding of atomic design principles, expertise in design system architecture, and a track record of building and evolving design systems for complex digital products. A strong interaction and visual design skills, systems-thinking mindset, and accessibility-first design approach are essential. Additionally, experience partnering closely with front-end engineers and strong understanding of design-to-development workflows, implementation constraints, technical tradeoffs, and design QA practices are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Interaction Design, Visual/Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • 6+ years in product design, including 2+ years focused on design systems.
  • Advanced Figma expertise, including libraries, variables, and design system management.
  • Strong prototyping, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to present system decisions and influence cross-functional stakeholders.

Schedule

The role is a hybrid role based in Milpitas, CA with on-site work three days per week and the remaining days remote.
