Senior DevOps Engineer
Job Summary
The Senior DevOps Engineer at Delta Dental of New Jersey & Connecticut plays a central role in evolving how we build, integrate, and operate applications. Working across cloud, DevOps, and integration platforms, this engineer writes code, builds automation, and supports production systems in a HIPAA-regulated environment, while contributing to DDNJ's modernization efforts, including the adoption of AI-assisted engineering tooling.
About the role
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of working onsite in our Parsippany, NJ office two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday).
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Build and Engineer
- Develop and maintain a deep understanding of DDNJ's ecosystem, spanning customizable off-the-shelf, custom n-tier and cloud-native solutions.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps.
- Develop and deploy solutions in GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL).
- Develop automation solutions using PowerShell, Python etc.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or similar tools.
- Support DDNJ's integration and connectivity tools such as MuleSoft.
- Operate & Support
- Debug and resolve complex problems in production environments.
- Configure and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions such as Datadog or equivalent.
- Provide remote off-hours 24x7 support on a rotating basis (week per month).
- Create and maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, data flows, and deployment runbooks.
- Operate within established ITIL practices (Change, Release, Problem Management).
- Lead & Mentor
- Act as technical advisor for design and implementation of new systems or enhancements.
- Lead code reviews and set engineering standards for the Application Services team.
- Mentor team members on cloud technologies and best practices.
- Collaborate
- Interact and collaborate with security, network, data, and dev teams.
- Partner with TMO Project Managers for seamless production turnover and knowledge transfer.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience with GCP or equivalent public cloud and relevant technologies such as: Networking (Virtual Private Cloud, Cloud Load Balancing), Compute (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions), Data (Cloud SQL, Alloy DB, BigQuery, Storage), Security (Cloud Identity, Certificate Authority Service, Secret Manager).
- Experience with Azure DevOps and deployment automation best practices.
- Experience with AI Agentic/coding tools such as Claude Code/CLI, Gemini CLI/Antigravity.
- Proficient in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or Bash.
- Demonstrated experience with observability solutions (Datadog or equivalent).
- Knowledge of SQL databases, RESTful APIs, and web services.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform.
- Comfort working with AI-assisted development tooling such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent.
- Experience, Education, and Certifications Required:
- 4-6 years’ experience in general application analysis/support including .Net, data integration through APIs, coding, and scripting.
- 3+ years of hands-on cloud platform experience (GCP, Azure, or AWS) deploying and managing solutions.
- Health Care or other regulated industry experience is preferred.
