About the role

The primary role is to lead Automation effort of infrastructure provisioning, build and deploy activities for NC FAST applications. This position must demonstrate a solid understanding of AWS infrastructure and software release life cycle. The role involves creating and maintaining Ansible playbooks, troubleshooting automation issues, ensuring consistent and reliable deployments across environments, and collaborating with DevOps and application teams to enhance CI/CD workflows. Strong knowledge of Linux, Ansible Tower/AWX, YAML, automation best practices, and infrastructure-as-code principles is required. Experience with debugging deployments, validating configurations, and improving release reliability is a plus.

The position will work with IT management to improve the software engineering processes and practices associated with continuous integration and Continuous deployment (CI/CD) of application changes. This position will interact with the architects, developers, deployment Team, and Database Administrators to ensure automation of various tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lead automation of infrastructure provisioning, build, and deploy activities for NC FAST applications
• Create and maintain Ansible playbooks for configuration management and deployment
• Troubleshoot automation issues and ensure consistent, reliable deployments across environments
• Collaborate with DevOps and application teams to enhance CI/CD workflows
• Debug deployments, validate configurations, and improve release reliability
• Work with IT management to improve software engineering processes and CI/CD practices
• Interact with architects, developers, deployment team, and DBAs to automate various tasks
• Automate Linux OS and software patches and upgrades across multiple environments
• Automate build/deploy processes including database changes
• Develop automation scripts, operational utilities, and workflow scripts
• Build and package applications with Docker; manage and scale containerized workloads using Kubernetes
• Provision, configure, and manage infrastructure and environments using Terraform and Ansible
• Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines using tools like TeamCity, Jenkins, and Ansible

Requirements

• 7+ years experience automating Linux OS and software patches/upgrades across multiple environments using automation tools like Ansible
• 3+ years hands-on experience with BitBucket or Git (branching, merging, configuring, administering)
• 7+ years hands-on experience automating build/deploy processes including database changes using tools like Ansible
• 7+ years experience developing automation scripts, operational utilities, and workflow scripts using Python, Bash, or Shell
• 2+ years experience building and packaging applications with Docker, and managing/scaling containerized workloads using Kubernetes
• 4+ years experience in infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and environment management using Terraform and Ansible
• 2+ years hands-on experience developing and managing CI/CD (DevOps) pipelines using tools like TeamCity, Jenkins, Ansible
• Strong knowledge and understanding of Amazon Web Services and infrastructure (highly desired, 2+ years)
• Solid understanding of AWS infrastructure and software release life cycle
• Strong knowledge of Linux, Ansible Tower/AWX, YAML, automation best practices, and infrastructure-as-code principles
