Senior Development Operations Engineer

The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium is seeking a Full-time Senior Development Operations Engineer to join the IT Department, contributing to the Zoo’s mission by building and maintaining software and infrastructure.

About the role

This position involves designing, developing, implementing, automating, securing, integrating, monitoring, and supporting the Zoo’s software and technology infrastructure. The Senior DevOps Engineer will enhance system performance, processes, and operational efficiency while collaborating with IT team members, internal departments, Zoo affiliates, and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues. Responsibilities include evaluating emerging DevOps tooling, cloud technologies, and platforms, as well as assisting with system architecture and technology decisions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, automate, secure, integrate, monitor, and support the Zoo’s software and technology infrastructure.
• Improve workflows and automations for internal users and guests.
• Design solutions for internal and outward-facing processes.
• Enhance system performance, processes, and operational efficiency.
• Collaborate with IT team members, internal departments, Zoo affiliates, and external vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
• Evaluate and research emerging DevOps tooling, cloud technologies, and platforms.
• Assist with system architecture and technology decisions.

Requirements

• Must be 21+ years of age.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related fields preferred OR equivalent work experience.
• Advanced understanding of databases, web servers, and object-oriented programming languages.
• Advanced knowledge of Python, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL, MS SQL Server, and/or PostgreSQL.
• Prior experience with Odoo, n8n, DigitalOcean, AWS, NoSQL, Redis, non-profit processes, Blackbaud platforms, and/or Metabase is a plus.
• Knowledge of Agile software development practices.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and may occasionally require in excess of forty hours per scheduled workweek. Reports to the Vice President of Information Technology. The Toledo Zoo is a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.
