Senior Design Engineer - New Product Development

Essential Functions

  • Create new products using disciplined engineering methods within the Stage Gate process.
  • Develop and test new products using engineering methods.
  • Contribute to patentable designs by providing engineering leadership on individual projects.
  • Build project plans and manage resources across the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop new ideas and improve performance.
  • Interact with stakeholders to facilitate project completion.
  • Makes timely decisions based on risks and available information.
  • Supports decisions with data and prepares documentation.
  • Executes tasks related to new product development, including drawing, test plan, and technical manual creation, product failure analysis, and in-field investigations.
  • Performs additional duties as needed and/or assigned by supervisor/manager.

Travel

Up to 20% travel.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering or related field.
  • Electrical Engineering considered if there is a strong mechanical background.
  • Minimum 7 years design engineering experience in new product development.

Knowledge/Skills

  • SolidWorks proficiency required.
  • Experience in food or meat processing, capital equipment, or industrial design preferred.
  • Precise and articulate written and verbal communication skills, including group presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and decision-making skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Uses hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Understands the speech of another person, speaks clearly so listeners can understand, and sees details of objects that are less than a few feet away.

Working Conditions

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
