Senior Design Engineer

About the role

The Senior Design Engineer’s primary role uses highly developed engineering expertise and project management abilities to contribute to the design and development of new products and support of existing products within the Power Tools department.

Responsibilities

• Manage 1‑3 direct reports (Design Engineers and Designers).
• Lead technical resource and mechanical engineering leader on mid/high‑complexity Power Tool new product development projects.
• Provide clear engineering information to Project Leaders and the Global Engineering teams, facilitating trade‑off decisions.
• Establish test regimens for components and assemblies within the project scope with minimal guidance.
• Deliver complete data analysis to support design recommendations.
• Serve as a technical resource on areas of expertise and provide consultation/mentorship to others.
• Execute a wide variety of calculations and software‑aided analyses, including:
  • Mechanical stress analysis
  • Tolerance stack analyses
  • Gearing design (preferred)
  • Fluid dynamics (preferred)
  • NVH / response of dynamic systems
  • Mechanism development and analysis

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Mechanics.
• 5+ years of design experience.
• Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (ProE, SolidWorks, NX, or similar).
• Competency with finite element analysis (FEA).
• Deep mechanical aptitude, including broad knowledge of engineering materials, mechanical properties, and associated manufacturing processes.
• Experience leveraging artificial‑intelligence tools to maximize productivity and engineering rigor (preferred).
• Ability to travel up to 10% (domestic and international).
• High interest in tools of the construction trades or outdoor power equipment.
