Roles & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the design, development, and documentation of low- and medium-voltage switchgear and power distribution systems, while providing technical leadership, mentoring engineers, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, customer requirements, and MCM quality standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical resource and mentor for Design Engineers and Engineering Interns.
  • Provide guidance on complex design challenges, protection schemes, control circuits, and customer requirements.
  • Provide peer reviews of the engineering deliverables of less experienced engineers.
  • Review engineering deliverables for technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Support engineering training and knowledge sharing initiatives.
  • Aid in developing and maintaining engineering standards, templates, and best practices.
  • Lead the design and development of complex electrical switchgear systems including general requirements, elevation and plan views, one-line diagrams, schematics, and control circuits.
  • Lead the selection and specification of electrical components and provide guidance on component application, coordination, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Create and revise engineering drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical).
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards (e.g., IEC, ANSI, UL, IEEE).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical designers, project managers, and manufacturing teams.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications and provide technical input during submittal, production, and post-shipment phases.
  • Participate in customer technical review meetings and provide engineering expertise during project execution.
  • Support resolution of technical issues during manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and post-shipment activities.

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Qualifications: Demonstrate advanced technical expertise in switchgear and power distribution system design.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to less experienced engineers.
  • Independently manage complex projects with minimal oversight.
  • Evaluate technical alternatives and make sound engineering decisions.
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts to customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and standardization.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, thoroughness, and impeccable attention to detail and organizational skills while successfully managing many concurrent projects.
  • Define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Read and understand contracts, specifications, technical drawings, procedures, and manuals.
  • Approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, treat others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position, accept responsibility for own action, and follow through on commitments.

  • Experience & Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or related engineering discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in switchgear or power distribution equipment design.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects from concept through manufacturing and testing.
  • Experience reviewing and approving engineering deliverables.
  • Experience mentoring or training engineers.
  • Advanced understanding of low- and medium-voltage systems (up to 38kV).
  • Advanced understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and Microsoft software.
  • Knowledge of relevant electrical standards (IEC, IEEE, UL, NEMA, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience in manufacturing, testing, commissioning, or field service of switchgear (preferred).
