Senior Design Engineer

About the role

Eaton’s Electrical sector, Protection Control & Solutions (PCS) group is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to perform product design engineering for the Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) product line. This role is based at our Tech Center in Moon Township, PA, with relocation available within the US and a hybrid work model (3 days onsite, 2 days remote).

Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to compile, study, and reconcile product requirements and standards to design, develop, validate, and document MCCB products.
• Identify and prioritize projects to eliminate potential design and performance issues during new product development or enhance existing product performance and margin.
• Develop strong technical knowledge in circuit breaker design, testing, application, and applicable governing regulatory standards (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc.).
• Utilize statistical quality tools to establish performance baselines and identify focus areas for product performance enhancements and robustness improvements.
• Perform and leverage modeling/simulation activities on component and system levels to ensure robust designs and adequate performance margins.
• Integrate Design for Six Sigma, CeTol, GD&T, simulation & modeling software, and phase-gate development processes.
• Maintain product listings and address third-party testing non-conformances to minimize financial, sales, and delivery impact.
• Establish control plans, component & process verifications, and define critical-to-quality characteristics.
• Collaborate with marketing, industrialization, manufacturing, project management, and other key teams to ensure successful product development and launch.
• Support customer technical questions and provide routine updates to management, leadership, and the engineering organization on key projects and metric performance.
• Design responsibility for select projects from inception through validation and into production implementation.
• Support new product design and development, validate design concepts, obtain and maintain third-party certifications, and support product launch phases.
• Ensure product functional requirements, resolve yield and quality issues, enhance performance of existing products, validate component changes, and support cost reductions (VA/VE) efforts.
• Address application issues and provide production line support.
• Interface with regional and global teams in design, manufacturing, marketing, quality, and customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (mechanical preferred) from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in mechanical or electromechanical component/product design.
• Cross-functional teamwork and written & verbal communication skills.
• Fundamentals of project management and methodical mechanical problem-solving.
• Understanding of product requirements, performance margins, and system, product & component design.
• Laboratory skills and safe work practices.
• May require up to 10% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Six-Sigma quality tools and methodology.
• Knowledge of circuit breakers and applicable standards (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc.).
• Prior product ownership for cost-effective manufacturing and compliance with regulatory standards.
• Experience with engineering computer applications such as Pro/Engineer Creo or similar, Excel, and computer-based simulation modeling (static stress, thermal, kinematics/dynamics, tolerances, etc.).
• Bilingual with fluency in English and Spanish.
• Fundamentals of electricity.

Pay

The expected annual salary range for this role is $86,000 - $126,000. Salaries are based on candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
