Senior Dental Assistant*

About the role

The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University seeks a dedicated Dental Assistant to support clinical operations and patient care. This position provides comprehensive chairside assistance, operatory maintenance, dental laboratory support, and radiology services.

Responsibilities

• Assist dental students, residents, and faculty in emergency, restorative, prosthodontic, periodontic, endodontic, and oral surgery services.
• Operate high-volume evacuation equipment and manage challenging clinical situations.
• Maintain operatories and dental equipment in a clean, organized, and functional state.
• Perform dental laboratory tasks, including pouring models, trimming models, and fabricating custom appliances.
• Operate dental radiographic equipment and process radiographs.
• Support IV sedation procedures and assist with board examinations.
• Prepare and seat patients, explain procedures, and assist with clinical procedures.
• Enter clinical findings into the electronic health record and schedule follow-up appointments.
• Support outreach efforts and participate in community health fairs.
• Follow infection control protocols and adhere to emergency response procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with two years of related experience.
• Certified Dental Assistant and/or Associate's degree with one year of experience in dentistry.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with dental knowledge.
• Current CPR certification.
• Intraoral Radiographic Certification and training in radiological safety.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a focus in dental or health-related studies.
• Graduation from a Certified Dental Assisting program.
• Proficiency in spoken Spanish in a clinical setting.
• Certification as a Dental Surgical Anesthesia Assistant or ability to obtain this certification within the first year of employment.
