About the role
This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Demolition Oversight Technician to support our Novi, Michigan office.
Responsibilities
- Provide local technical leadership for the management and monitoring/oversight of simple to complex decommissioning, regulated material abatement, demolition, and/or environmental projects with multiple contractors and discipline professionals.
- Aid in the development of strategies and specifications to meet our client’s objectives and solve their challenges in asset retirement.
- Be a champion for accomplishing the project’s health, safety, environmental, and quality goals as well as the project budget and schedule.
- Proactively identify task and technical issues and work with the project team to take action to mitigate risk.
- Generate accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
- Strongly represent WSP’s culture through positive and frequent communication and collaboration with the project team, including the client, other professionals, and contractors.
- Seek out opportunities to share knowledge with and mentor junior staff, imparting technical skills to others.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- 9+ years of demolition oversight experience, including regulated materials (e.g., asbestos-containing materials, PCB-containing materials, universal waste) abatement, and demolition via explosive and/or non-explosive means and methods of commercial and/or industrial facilities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications, permit requirements, test data, schedules and budgets.
- Familiar with relevant environmental and construction laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Cumulative interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively, professionally, and succinctly to a technical and non-technical audience.
- Competent self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Ability to perform physical activities required such as squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain.
- Basic proficiency with business writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel for extended periods may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a closely-related discipline.
- Licensure as a Michigan Asbestos Building Inspector, or ability to obtain licensure.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
- Deep abatement and demolition oversight experience, with decommissioning, remediation, civil, and/or vertical construction oversight experience beneficial.
