Responsibilities
- Design and maintain the hybrid database architectures connecting on-premises SQL Servers to Microsoft Fabric.
- Serve as the primary DBA SME supporting the broader Fabric Data Platform implementation team.
- Help define the core service catalog and operational SLA standards for the new Data Operations team.
- Design, document, and implement a standardized, repeatable intake process for all enterprise data requests.
- Ensure all data is efficiently stored, highly accessible, and cleanly integrated from various source systems into the Fabric environment, preparing it for downstream analytics and AI workloads.
- Manage the setup, configuration, and maintenance of all connections to diverse data sources.
- Configure and support client tools required for secure enterprise data access.
- Continuously monitor system health and database performance. Proactively troubleshoot bottlenecks, optimize complex queries, manage indexing strategies, and allocate computing resources efficiently within the cloud environment.
- Implement and govern strict access controls, row-level security, and data masking protocols to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance across both on-prem and Fabric environments.
- Plan, implement, and rigorously test data backup, retention, and disaster recovery strategies to guarantee business continuity and data integrity.
Qualifications
- Have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, mathematics, or equivalent practical experience.
- Have 7+ years of experience as a Database Administrator in complex, enterprise-scale environments.
- Possess deep, authoritative expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (on premises) and extensive experience migrating or connecting legacy databases to cloud environments.
- Have hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms, specifically Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, or similar cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
- Be strongly proficient in database performance tuning, query optimization, and resource management.
- Have proven experience establishing ITIL or similar operational processes, including designing intake workflows for data requests or incident management.
- Possess a solid understanding of data integration patterns, ETL/ELT processes, and enterprise security standards (IAM, RBAC).
- Be a Process Architect: Doesn’t just solve the immediate ticket; look for ways to build a standardized process so the issue never happens again.
- Be a “Stable Core”: Bring a methodical, highly disciplined approach to database management, ensuring the infrastructure remains rock-solid as the business scales.
- Be a Collaborative Builder: Eager to help build a new Data Operations team from scratch, comfortable defining new core offerings rather than just inheriting an existing playbook.
