Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) to support KITS and our government customer in Carson, CA. This position may require support at other locations including Columbus, OH, Bedford, MA, Fort Lee, VA, and Smyrna, GA.
About the role
The customer’s systems track hundreds of thousands of contracts and billions in taxpayer dollars. The DBA role is critical to ensuring that mission-essential data is available 24/7 for auditors, analysts, and leadership. As the Senior DBA, this role typically focuses on high-availability environments using Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL within a hybrid cloud (DoD Cloud Infrastructure) framework.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain production, development, and test database instances, including managing complex schemas that support contract management and financial tracking applications.
- Monitor system performance and identify bottlenecks. Use advanced diagnostic tools to optimize SQL queries, indexing, and memory allocation to ensure low-latency response times for end-users.
- Apply DISA STIGs to the database layer. Implement encryption at rest and in transit, manage Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and ensure strict adherence to the Principle of Least Privilege.
- Develop and test rigorous backup and recovery strategies (e.g., Oracle RMAN, SQL Server Always-On Availability Groups) to meet the agency's Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Support the migration of on-premises databases to Azure Government Cloud (e.g., Azure SQL Managed Instance).
Requirements
- 8–12 years of experience in enterprise database administration, with significant experience in a federal or DoD environment.
- Deep knowledge of PL/SQL or T-SQL, database clustering, partitioning, and virtualization technologies.
- Experience in MS SQL in an enterprise environment supporting multiple databases, Oracle Database, and Oracle Grid Controllers with primary and stand-by sites, Informatica, and Data Center Servers.
Qualifications
- Clearance Requirement: Most roles require at least a Secret clearance, with some requiring Top Secret (TS/SCI) depending on the sensitivity of the systems.
- Certifications (DoD 8570): Must meet IAT Level II or III. Typically requires Security+ CE plus a professional database certification (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional or Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate).
